I Remarried My Ex And Stopped Loving Him Chapter 03

After Jason and I got married the first time, I became a full-time wife.

Everyone around me was jealous. I had a rich father and I’d married a self-made young success story.

I really thought I’d be happy forever.

Then Emily got divorced.

The first Valentine’s Day Jason missed, he told me he was working late at the office.

But no sooner had he walked through the door than Emily showed up with his tie.

I was confused.

He just shrugged. “Emily works at the company. She grabbed it for me on her way out.”

I wanted to ask more questions, but he looked so tired that I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I had it so easy at home, everything handed to me. He worked so hard.

It didn’t seem right to doubt him.

I told myself marriage required trust. I couldn’t just get jealous over nothing.

But things like that kept happening.

On our wedding anniversary, Jason left me alone at the restaurant to go save Emily from a landlord who was giving her a hard time.

Then came a sudden downpour. Lily and I were stuck at the early learning center. Jason drove Emily and Hailey home instead.

Lily caught the flu, spiked a fever, and had a seizure. I couldn’t reach Jason anywhere. I took her to the hospital by myself, only to find him there with a team of specialists treating a scratch on Hailey’s hand.

Every single time, Emily would text me first.

[So sorry, Mrs. Harrison, Jason said I shouldn’t stay at my place anymore. He’s moving me into one of his houses.]

[So sorry, Mrs. Harrison, it’s my fault, I got dizzy. He’ll drop me off and then come get you guys.]

[So sorry, Mrs. Harrison, Jason’s just really worried about Hailey. I’ll talk to him in a minute.]

Eventually, I couldn’t take it anymore. I kept asking Jason, over and over, Who was his wife? Who was his daughter?

At first, he tried to explain patiently.

“We’ve known each other our whole lives. I help her out when I can.”

But then he got more and more impatient.

“You grew up with a silver spoon. You have no idea what it’s like for people at the bottom. Can’t you cut her some slack?”

“Emily’s a struggling single mom. Why do you always have to come after her like this?”

“Can’t you handle anything yourself? I‘ve got a million things going on at work, and now I’m supposed to run around after you and your daughter too?”

“If you can’t raise that kid right, find someone who can. She’s already learned how to push people around at this age. She‘s going to be a nightmare when she grows up.”

Lily and I stopped waiting for him to come home with excitement in our hearts.

Because the moment he walked in, the fighting would start.

Lily got quieter and quieter.

Even her preschool teacher asked if something was wrong at home.

What finally made me decide to divorce him was the night of Jason’s company gala.

He told me he was working late.

I’d been so exhausted and sleepy all the time that I’d completely forgotten the gala was happening.

Then I saw a post on social media from someone in the same city.

[The CEO of Harrington Technologies and his wife look absolutely perfect together. Straight out of a rom-com.]

The photo showed Jason and Emily standing side by side at the gala.

I called Jason again and again. No answer.

When he finally picked up, it was Emily’s voice on the other end.

“Mrs. Harrison, Jason’s swamped right now. Whatever you need to tell him, you can just tell me.”

I told her to put Jason on the phone.

She let out this little fake laugh, all saccharine sweet. “Mrs. Harrison, I’m Jason’s secretary. He doesn’t keep secrets from me, you know.”

Then she added, “A lot of people today said I’d make a much better Mrs. Harrington.”

I was shaking all over. I hung up, didn’t even change out of my slippers, and drove straight to the gala.
