I Was Tortured and Buried Alive under the Tower, So I Triggered Nightmares to Confess Chapter 01

Three years had passed since my death. Fortitude Spire, the iconic landmark overseen by my ex-husband Rowan Mercer, was officially completed.

His new wife Marnie Carter, the architect of this building, was featured on a statewide interview program.

When asked about her design ideas, she wore a bright smile.

“As the name implies, Fortitude Spire means unbreakable strength,” she said.

“It stands for the unyielding will of our united city.”

“It also represents the everlasting bond between my husband and me.”

Once the show aired, people all over praised their love story.

The observation deck atop the spire quickly became a famous check-in spot for countless couples.

Yet I alone knew the real meaning behind the name.

It stood for eternal imprisonment.

Half a month later, every couple who had visited the spire started having the exact same dream.

“We saw a woman covered all over with enchanted talismans. We could not make out her face,” one couple told others.

“She seemed to be right under the spire.”

“She kept crying that the building weighed down on her. It was unbearably heavy.”

Rumors grew louder each day.

Faced with mounting public pressure, Rowan had to turn to a spiritual medium to set the record straight.

Elias Thorne stood before Fortitude Spire and chanted softly. His face turned stern moments later.

“A wrongfully killed woman lies buried right here beneath us,” he declared.

“We must excavate the foundation immediately. We have to find out who she is and how she died to lay her spirit to rest.”

“If we delay, everyone who has set foot on this spire will meet a terrible end.”

“That can’t possibly be true!” Rowan snapped, stunned.

“I personally supervised all the geological surveys for this project. There were no issues whatsoever.”

“Sir Medium, all I need is for you to set the record straight to the public today. These baseless rumors’ll die out on their own.”

At those words, Elias flicked his ritual broom sharply.

“A wronged spirit haunts this place, consumed by raging resentment. This injustice runs deep. If you doubt my words, go find someone else.”

Rowan’s expression darkened.

Elias from Whispering Pines Sanctuary had a sharp temper, but he commanded immense respect across the region.

He first rose to fame using crimson candle divination to expose the truth behind a decades-old murder case that had baffled law enforcement for thirty years.

He had solved countless tricky cases ever since.

Only he could convince the skeptical public now.

The City Building Authority was already investigating the Mercer family over the public scandal. He risked losing all construction funds if the situation worsened.

He had gone to great lengths to bring Elias here. Holding back his frustration, he bowed respectfully.

“I mean no disrespect. I inspected this site thoroughly before construction began. There was no sign of a body at all.”

“Digging up the foundation is no trivial matter. Would you please use crimson candle divination to verify this first?”

Elias let out a cold huff.

“Very well. I shall demonstrate my craft for you all today.”

He pulled four crimson candles out of his cloth bag.

“Have your men set one candle at each of the four cardinal directions around the tower.”

Rowan nodded and gave the order right away.

Word spread fast that Elias would perform crimson candle divination at Fortitude Spire.

By the time the candles were set up, crowds of onlookers and reporters had gathered. Law enforcement officers also stood by, ready to respond.

“Now, let us reveal the identity of the deceased,” Elias said.

He scribbled a quick charm. The four candles burst into flames with no wind to ignite them.

In the next instant, wavering candlelight etched a bold name across the surface of Fortitude Spire.

Seren Lowell.
