My Alpha Mate Shoved Me Into The Trunk For The Omega’s Dog Chapter 09

I hurried to the main hall to find Hemlock surrounded by curious onlooking pack members.

He shouted loud enough for everyone to hear. “Where’s Avril? Fetch her to me at once, I need to speak with her!”

He leaned on his status and authority as Alpha, acting like I’d cave and beg for reconciliation if he threw a public scene to pressure me.

His face lit up the moment he spotted me, and he pushed roughly through the crowd to reach my side.

“Avril, you’re finally here!”

I apologized to the surrounding pack members.

To avoid disrupting their work, I pulled Hemlock outside the hall.

Sweat dotted his forehead, his gaze full of desperate remorse.

“Avril, I’m sorry. I wronged you, please forgive me.”

“I never realized how fake and deceitful Mia really is—she’s been hiding behind that innocent act to trick me this whole time!”

“I won’t trust another word from her ever again!”

“Let’s go back to how we used to be, I can’t live without you.”

His eyes glistened with emotion as he spoke.

Once upon a time, I would’ve softened with pity, unable to bear seeing him so distraught.

Now there was nothing but cold stillness and indifference in my heart.

Our mate bond had shattered beneath wave after wave of disappointment, and the sharp agony it once brought no longer lingered inside me.

I spoke calmly, no trace of emotion in my tone. “Hemlock, don’t lie to yourself. You’re only apologizing because the security footage exposed the truth. If those cameras hadn’t existed, would you have believed a single word I said?”

Hemlock parted his lips to respond, yet no sound came out at all.

I’d assumed he’d take the hint and leave me be.

Close to quitting time, Benjamin found me to say Hemlock was still waiting out front.

He’d stood outside the council hall all day, quiet and alone, with no more pack members lingering to watch.

A violent thunderstorm rolled in overhead, pouring rain with no sign of letting up.

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office, I watched Hemlock stand stubbornly in the downpour.

Rain soaked his hair and clothes through and through; the polished, dignified Alpha looked haggard and lonely beneath the torrential downpour.

I felt nothing for him.

Now he regretted his choices? Where had that remorse been when

he’d chosen Mia over me time and time again?

I drew the curtains shut, blocking out the rain and his figure entirely.

Later that evening, I slipped out and hitched a ride to the airport with Benjamin.

I was leaving Blackthorn Valley that very night.

The rain kept falling nonstop…

Inside the car, Benjamin couldn’t hold back his question any longer. “Avril, you’re really leaving without telling the Alpha? He was your mate, after all.”

I answered simply. “Not anymore.”

Beneath Benjamin’s stunned stare, I pulled a necklace out of my bag and held it out to him.

The moonstone set in its chain had been hand-carved and mounted by Hemlock himself.

I’d cherished it deeply for years.

“If the Alpha comes looking for me tomorrow, hand this over to him for me.”

Benjamin stared at the necklace, hesitant. “What if he doesn’t show up tomorrow?”

“Throw it away, then.”

Benjamin remained stunned, asking softly. “Is there anything else you’d like me to pass along to him?”

I shook my head. I’d already said everything that needed saying.

The airport boarding announcement crackled through the waiting room speakers. I smiled and waved goodbye to Benjamin.

I left the valley without a single shred of hesitation.

I was tossing out my trash, right here, right now.

I hadn’t expected Hemlock to track me all the way to Silverpine Forest.

One evening after overtime, I headed down the building steps ready to head home.

A dark figure darted out from nowhere, startling me.

“Avril, I finally found you!”

I lifted my gaze to see Hemlock standing before me, worn thin from his long journey.

Bloodshot eyes stared back, stubble sprouting rough along his jawline.

Only half a month apart, yet every trace of the Alpha’s usual poise and nobility had faded, leaving him gaunt and exhausted.

“Avril, why didn’t you tell me you’d moved to Silverpine Forest? Do you have any idea how long I’ve searched for you?”

He strode forward and snatched my wrist tight in his grip, his eyes overflowing with regret and desperate pleas.

“I truly know I messed up. I shouldn’t have doubted you, shouldn’t have blindly trusted Mia… I know you hate me, hit me, yell at me if it eases your anger—but how could you leave without a word?”

“We loved each other for six years, I can’t bear to lose you!”

He lifted his arms to pull me into an embrace.

I stepped backward, leaving his hands hanging empty mid-air.

“Hemlock, I told you long ago—our mate bond is broken.”

“Leave me alone from now on.”

I turned and walked away, no lingering attachment holding me back.

To prove how determined he was to win me back, Hemlock abandoned every last bit of Nightfall Pack’s pack related issue.

He’d relocated to Silverpine Forest, lingering stubbornly outside my front door every single day.
