The outcome came down fast. 

Lila was found liable for the intentional destruction of property and a multi–year campaign of defamation. 

What she had done crossed the line into actual legal liability, and she was ordered to pay full compensation. 

That included the cost of an extra year for every student forced onto a retest track, along with damages for emotional distress. 

She was also expelled from school, and the disciplinary action placed on her permanent record became a stain she would never be able to erase. 

Her parents sold the only home they owned to scrape together the settlement money. 

The scholarship girl everyone once praised became the person people whispered about in every hallway and on 

every block. 

Sometimes the line between good and evil really did 

come down to one choice. 

Because Evan had missed the first half of the boards, 

his final scores were a joke. In the end, he had no 

choice but to return to high school as a humiliated 

‘super–senior.‘. 

He tried reaching out to me again afterward, but I had 

already blocked him everywhere. Every message pinged against a digital wall of silence. 

In the end, all those sweet promises from childhood 

meant nothing against the fact that he had chosen, 

again and again, to trust the wrong person. 

Ms. Bennett was removed from her position too, after 

the school concluded that her handling of the situation 

had been grossly inappropriate. 

A lot of classmates messaged me later to apologize. 

I never answered. 

In their minds, they had only been deceived. They had 

not meant to hurt me. 

But from where I stood, that changed nothing. 

When an avalanche hit, no snowflake got to call itself 

innocent. 

I had survived all of it on my own will. 

After I submitted my college applications, I got the 

admission letter I had wanted all along. 

The day it arrived, the sun was bright and warm. 

I stood on campus, watching people pass by, and for 

the first time, it felt like the shadow of those three years in high school had finally lifted. 

In college, I made friends who actually shared my 

values. 

I joined clubs I genuinely loved, stayed near the top of my major, and earned scholarships on my own merit. 

Every now and then, I would hear from old classmates. that Lila was working three service jobs just to keep up 

with her debt payments. 

I also heard that Evan barely managed to get into a 

third–tier college, his future as mediocre as his 

judgment. 

None of it stirred anything in me. 

All I felt was relief. 

Thank God I had only ever truly relied on myself. 

My admission ticket was something I had to keep in my 

own hands. 

Just like my life.
