Tessa stared at him. She’d even stopped crying.

Like she genuinely couldn’t comprehend how the man who’d been so tender to her days ago had turned this fast.

Soren didn’t look at her again. He headed for the door.

He was stopped at the entrance by a man in a suit with gold-rimmed glasses.

“Dr. DeLuca. Good evening. I am the attorney representing Ms. Alessa Moran.”

“Given the overwhelming evidence of your infidelity, my client is formally filing for divorce.”

He turned to Tessa.

“And this young lady.”

Tessa flinched.

“Wh-what does this have to do with me?”

The lawyer’s tone was perfectly calm.

“Every cent Dr. DeLuca gifted you came from marital assets. My client will pursue full recovery of those losses in the divorce settlement. That means—once the court rules—Dr. DeLuca will be required to liquidate your marital home and empty his accounts to repay the debt he owes my client.”

“And you, my dear. Unless you can prove this money was a commercial loan, you will be named as a co-defendant. At that point, your apartment, your shop—all will appear on the bank’s frozen asset list. How long do you think you can last?”

Tessa’s legs buckled. She sank to the floor.

Soren’s face contorted. Like he still couldn’t believe I was actually divorcing him.

“Impossible. Alessa wouldn’t divorce me. I don’t consent.”

“Get out of my way. I’m going to find her and settle this.”

The lawyer remained impassive.

“One more thing.”

“Ms. Moran asked me to tell you—don’t bother looking for her. She doesn’t want to see you again. She’s already on a flight that departed ten minutes ago.”

“As for whether you consent—the court summons will reach you shortly.”

“See you in court.”
