The Day I Miscarried, He Was Delivering Another Woman’s Baby Chapter 10

Soren stood there. Emptied out.

What did he mean, I’d already left?

The guests were trickling out. The looks they cast at him and Tessa held undisguised contempt.

“Some genius doctor. Didn’t even know his own wife miscarried. His family was in a life-and-death crisis and he was out screwing around. This guy’s fit to practice medicine?”

“And that woman. Online every day branding herself as an independent female entrepreneur. Spending another woman’s husband’s money the whole time.”

“I bought a prepaid grooming package at her shop. I’m getting a refund tomorrow.”

Tessa buried her face in her knees. She couldn’t lift her head.

Kevin sighed and put a hand on Soren’s shoulder.

“Things have blown up too far. People are already protesting at the hospital.”

“Admin just messaged me. You’re on suspension, effective immediately. Soren, you need to think about what comes next.”

Soren wasn’t hearing any of it.

He bolted from the hotel. Drove home like a man possessed. The whole way muttering.

“No. She wouldn’t leave me. She should be home by now. She has to be home…”

He threw open the front door and froze.

The house was exactly as he’d left it when he’d torn it apart.

Five years of marriage. I’d always kept the house in order so he’d walk into something comfortable. Meals cooked. Everything in its place.

At first, he’d helped. He’d felt bad.

Then he got used to it.

Then he thought it was how things should always be.

This was the first time he’d come home to a house no one had cleaned for him.

He called the station. He asked about me. All he got was: she’s gone.

Where I had gone—no one would tell him.

The marriage certificate and the wedding ring sat on the table. Quiet.

Like they were telling him this house would never have me in it again.

His parents called one after another. Called him a disgrace. Said he’d personally driven away the best daughter-in-law they could’ve asked for. Said they wanted nothing to do with him.

Soren just stood there. Motionless.
