He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 29

An inconspicuous car pulled up to the door.

Daisy was escorted away.

Beau cried as if his heart were breaking, struggling free from a servant’s grasp to chase after her, only to be stopped by Old Mr. Walker.

“Don’t take my mommy! You’re all bad people!”

The child’s shrill cries echoed across the quiet ranch.

Though Rhett had been a peripheral figure, Daisy had been Beau’s entire world. His dependence on her was bone-deep.

Daisy watched her son through the car window, her heart twisting.

But the agreement was clear: no visitation. She couldn’t fight the Walker family.

Gritting her teeth, she told the driver to go.

Rhett’s parents stood on the porch, watching the car disappear down the long road, their expressions grim.

Meanwhile, Rhett was driving his Ford F-150 at breakneck speed toward the Dallas mansion of Ellie’s parents.

Ellie was gone, but he was sure she hadn’t cut off all contact with her family.

He had to beg the Vances. If they would just give him a single piece of information, anything at all.

But when he arrived, covered in road dust, he was met with a tightly closed wrought-iron gate.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Walker,” the butler’s voice came through the intercom, polite and distant. “Sir and Madam have gone abroad on vacation. We’re not sure where they went. There’s no one home.”

Rhett refused to give up. He peered through the bars of the gate.

“If you’re looking for someone, perhaps you could call first? Or I could pass on a message,” the butler added courteously.

Rhett’s gaze swept the courtyard. The lawn was perfectly manicured, but the potted plants on the porch were beginning to yellow.

The house did look like it had been empty for some time, not as if they had fled to avoid him.

His heart sank again.

After a moment’s hesitation, he took out his phone.

He had to make the call to his father-in-law himself.

About Daisy. About the child.

Mr. Vance had to have heard.

He had to explain. He had to make them believe he could bring Ellie back.
