He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 24

The house was deathly silent.

Ellie hadn’t even bothered to call Rhett’s parents. She had simply taken things to their absolute limit.

It wasn’t that the old Walkers weren’t displeased. But when their eyes fell on the infant Daisy was holding, the child who had been living in their home for days, they knew they had no grounds to blame Ellie.

Rhett had destroyed this marriage with his own two hands.

Old Mr. Walker summoned Rhett to the study. The heavy oak door closed, shutting out the world.

His father’s cold words lashed him immediately.

“Why did you insist on letting Daisy have that child?”

“Now Ellie is gone, and the company is going to be liquidated. Are you satisfied?”

“Your marriage to Ellie was tied to the future of this entire family! What have you gained from this? What have the Walkers gained?”

“Even if Ellie couldn’t have children—which was because she saved your life—there were other ways. Why did you have to choose the stupidest one?”

Rhett was silent for a long time, his back to the window, his face in shadow.

Finally, he lifted his head, his voice hoarse.

“She could have had children.”

His father froze.

“What did you say?”

“After the accident, the doctor eventually said that with treatment, her body had mostly recovered.”

“Then why did you—” Old Mr. Walker’s voice trembled with shock.

Rhett exhaled slowly, as if stripping away a heavy disguise.

“That came later.”

“At the time… I really did care about Daisy. If Ellie had a child, you and the rest of the family would never have accepted Daisy and her baby.”

He paused, searching for an excuse for his own ugly selfishness.

“Look at the situation now. Ellie has no child of her own, and you still can’t accept them.”

“As for the beginning… I was softhearted. Daisy said she was lonely. She said she would leave as soon as the baby was born. But later… I just couldn’t give up the child.”

Old Mr. Walker’s chest heaved with anger, but he forced himself to calm down. This wasn’t the time for blame.

“What are you going to do now?”

Rhett’s gaze turned cold and resolute, as if he were negotiating a deal.

“Bring Ellie back. Persuade her to withdraw the agreement. It’s the only way,” he said without hesitation. “As for Daisy, give her money and make her leave.”

“And the child?”

“The child stays,” Rhett said, his voice devoid of warmth. “He’s a Walker.”

In the study, father and son reached a cold consensus.

Sacrifice one woman to get the other back.
