He Wanted an Heir, So I Gave Him Ashes Chapter 23

“What?”

Rhett turned his head, thinking he must have misheard.

Forced sale of assets?

When had the Walker Group’s assets ever been at risk of a forced sale? This had to be a misunderstanding, or some malicious prank by a rival.

But the documents the lawyer handed him, thick and cold, shattered that hope.

“Thank you for your cooperation,” the lawyer said, turning to leave.

“Stop!” Rhett blocked his path.

He was a drowning man, grabbing for a piece of driftwood.

“Tell me where Ellie is.”

“Why can’t I get through to her?”

“You’re her attorney. You have to know where she went.”

The lawyer shook his head, his face a mask of professional indifference.

“Mr. Walker, I am not at liberty to disclose my client’s whereabouts. I can only tell you that as of a week ago, Ms. Vance had already arranged everything. She also specifically requested that no one contact her.”

Rhett stood there, watching the lawyer walk away without a backward glance, his vision tunneling.

A week ago, he had been raging at her about a leaked photo.

He had been plotting how to make her accept Daisy and the child.

And she had been calmly arranging his downfall.

Ellie wasn’t throwing a tantrum.

She hadn’t run away from home.

She was settling the score.

And the legal work was already done.

For the first time, Rhett felt true panic.

It wasn’t just that he was used to Ellie’s presence. He knew, better than anyone, what this notice meant. The foundation of the Walker family was about to be ripped out from under them. The empire they were so proud of would be publicly dismembered and auctioned off.

The Walker family was finished.
