My Son Called Her Mom So I Named My Price Chapter 07

He gripped Vanessa’s wrist tightly, the veins at his temple bulging.

“You even had to take Clara’s ring? When did you ask her for this?”

“When we staged that wedding, I bought you a ten-carat diamond ring. Was that still not enough? Do you even have a heart?”

Vanessa’s face flushed red, and she burst into tears.

“I didn’t take it from her!”

“Last time I came to your house, this ring was sitting on the coffee table, covered in dust.”

“Clara must have taken it off and left it there because she’s a materialistic snob who thought the ring you proposed with was too cheap to be seen wearing.”

“I know that when you proposed to her, you were broke. You saved for more than six months just to buy this twenty-thousand-dollar ring.”

“I felt bad for you. I didn’t want the ring you bought with all that love to sit there gathering dust, so I put it on.”

“I can’t believe you would say that to me. You really hurt me.”

With that, Vanessa ran out crying.

Adrian did not chase after her.

Instead, he stood frozen where he was.

He knew how much that engagement ring had meant to Clara.

Even the tiniest scratch would upset her for a long time.

She would send it out to be cleaned and repaired right away.

Now, she did not even want the ring she had once treasured most.

Clara might truly not want him anymore this time.

At that thought, Adrian’s breathing turned ragged.

Panic and heartache nearly brought him to his knees.

He hurriedly pulled out his phone, wanting to tell his assistant that once the records were checked, he should go buy some gifts Clara might like.

Clothes, handbags, jewelry, makeup.

Everything Vanessa had taken, he would replace for Clara one by one.

But then he thought better of it. His assistant did not understand Clara’s taste at all.

He decided to go himself.

This time, he would win Clara back with his whole heart, the Clara who had once loved only him.

He had barely started the car when his assistant called.

Adrian answered in a panic.

“How is it? Where is Clara? Is she all right?”

He fired off question after question, but his assistant did not answer any of them. When the assistant finally spoke, his voice was choked with tears.

“Mr. Bradford, none of the hospitals nearby have any record of Mrs. Bradford’s surgery. Only one hospital security clip caught her on camera.”

“Maybe you should come see it yourself.”

Adrian slammed the gas pedal and sped back to the hospital.

On the way to the security office, his legs kept going weak.

“Clara, please. Please don’t let anything happen to you.”

He prayed over and over in his heart.

After he arrived at the security office, his assistant pulled up the video.

On the screen, Adrian saw that familiar figure being dragged out of the hospital by security guards, their hands clamped around her arms.

His heart almost shattered.

“Clara!”

Even though he knew it was only a video, and even though he knew Clara could not hear him, Adrian still could not control himself. He

wanted to lunge toward the screen.

On the monitor, Clara’s face was twisted in pain. She struggled to reach out, trying to ask the people around her for help.

But the bystanders truly believed she was causing trouble and putting on an act.

One after another, they spat at her.

Adrian felt as if knives were twisting in his heart, and he clenched his teeth so hard he nearly tasted blood.

“Why didn’t anyone help her? What happened to Clara after that?”

Unable to bear it any longer, he lunged forward and dragged the progress bar straight to the end.

In the next second, Adrian’s eyes widened.

Clara was lying face down alone at the hospital entrance, completely motionless.

The footage ended there.

“Mr. Bradford, all the footage after that is gone. The nearby security cameras were also cut off at the same time. It may have been a system-wide failure.”

His assistant spoke carefully.

“Besides the hospitals nearby, I checked every hospital in the city. None of them have any record of Mrs. Bradford.”

“Mrs. Bradford’s cardiomyopathy had already flared up three times during her hospital stay. That heart transplant was her last chance.”

“We still haven’t found any medical records, and Mrs. Bradford has no travel records showing she left the city. Most likely… most likely, we’ll need to check with the police.”

How could Adrian not understand what his assistant meant?

He stood frozen in place, his throat making a rough choking sound.

After vomiting up a mouthful of blood, Adrian’s eyes rolled back, and he passed out.
