My mother did not even blink.

She took a folder from her attorney and threw it straight into Gregory’s face.

“I already cleaned up every shady little mess you made long ago.”

“The so-called confidential files you kept were nothing but useless papers I had finance leak to you on purpose six months ago.”

“The real critical data was never something a useless errand boy like you would be allowed anywhere near.”

The documents scattered all over the ground.

Gregory lowered his head and scanned the documents in front of him. The confidence he had been forcing himself to hold onto collapsed in an instant.

Every page was evidence that he had been secretly selling company information. Some of it was even hard proof of tax fraud.

My mother looked at him. Her voice was not loud, but every word cut straight to the bone.

“You did have some cleverness back then, and I did have expectations for you once.”

“But you insisted on using my tolerance as leverage so you could support that bastard child outside our marriage.”

“The moment you embezzled the first dollar, this trap was already set for you.”

The sharp wail of sirens sounded outside the marina.

Several police cars sped over and pulled up nearby.

Two uniformed officers got out and showed an arrest warrant.

“Gregory Lynn, you are under arrest on suspicion of felony embezzlement and business fraud. You need to come with us.”

Gregory went completely limp on the ground. His lips trembled, and he could not get out even half a sentence.

The police hauled him up by the arms, cuffed him, and forced him toward the patrol car.

Jasmine screamed and rushed forward to stop them, but an officer shoved her back.

“Dad! You can’t go. What am I supposed to do if you leave?”

Her hair was a mess as she collapsed onto the ground. Then she turned her head and glared at me viciously.

“Chloe, you set my dad up! You bitch!”

Suddenly, she turned toward the boys who had been hiding in the corner and pretending none of this had anything to do with them.

“Ryan! What are you standing there for?”

“Beat her up. Cut up her face.”

“If you help me teach her a lesson, I’ll give each of you fifteen thousand dollars.”

Ryan shuddered and backed away again and again.

He might be a jerk, but he was not stupid.

Even Gregory had been taken away by the police. It was obvious the Shaw family was not someone they could afford to mess with.

“Jasmine, are you insane? Who wants your dirty money?”

Ryan pointed straight at Jasmine’s nose and cursed her out.

“Your dad is a thief. You’re an illegitimate daughter kept hidden from the world.”

“You lied and said you were some rich heiress, then used stolen things to play the big spender. You’re disgusting.”

The other boys turned on her too, terrified of being tied to her.

“Exactly. That bottle worth almost half a million dollars was obviously ruined because she couldn’t keep her hands off it.”

“She also forced Chloe to kneel and tried to extort half a million dollars from her.”

“We didn’t do anything. She forced us into all of it.”

The same boys who had fawned over Jasmine like lapdogs only moments ago changed sides with terrifying speed.

To clear themselves, they did not hesitate to throw Jasmine under the bus.

Jasmine stared at her little followers in disbelief.

“You’re lying. You were the ones who said you’d testify for me.”

The attorney adjusted his glasses and spoke in a businesslike tone.

“Students, the yacht has surveillance footage covering the entire incident.”

“The bottle of wine worth almost half a million dollars was indeed damaged by Ms. Lynn.”

“At the same time, all of you are suspected of assisting in attempted extortion, making false statements, and verbally bullying Miss Chloe Shaw.”

“The police will contact your parents and your school afterward to pursue the appropriate legal consequences.”

The boys instantly lost all color in their faces.

The SATs had just ended. If they ended up with a criminal record or disciplinary action on their school records now, their futures would be over.

Ryan was so frightened that he collapsed onto the ground. A few of the others even started slapping themselves, begging me to let them off.
