It was a video of Madeline chatting with a few of her friends at a private gathering.

She was curled up on the couch drinking beer, rolling her eyes so hard they nearly rolled into the back of her head.

“That idiot Irinda came to me asking for a birthday gift. Who does she think she is?”

“I only cozied up to her to get Nellie’s secrets out of her. She’s ugly and has an awful figure. If she didn’t make me look prettier by comparison, how would she ever be worthy of being my friend?”

“Carrison’s Beta is broke and phony. He’ll spend his whole life serving an Alpha like a lackey.”

“Gladys Grimm has no shame. She’s almost thirty-five and still hasn’t found a mate. Keeping her in Nightfall Pack is a waste of pack resources. Nightfall Pack’s resources and property all belong to me. Once I become Luna, I’ll immediately marry her off to the second son of the neighboring pack’s Alpha.”

Madeline had insulted every single one of them.

The video ended on Madeline’s twisted, shrill scream.

The pack members who had just been defending Madeline now looked grim, one by one.

So this was who she really was, vicious to the bone.

Even Carrion staggered back several steps in disbelief.

The champagne flute in his hand shattered on the floor, and his eyes were filled with fear, as if he were looking at a stranger.

“Madeline, they are my pack members, my friends, and my family. How could you say that about them?”

“You’re terrifying.”

Madeline shook her head desperately with tears in her eyes. She had just opened her mouth to explain when Irinda tackled her to the floor.

Irinda straddled Madeline, slapped her hard several times, and tore at the skirt of her evening gown.

“I treated you like a friend, and this is how you talk about me?”

“You bitch! How dare you? You two-faced bitch, I’ll kill you!”

Carrion’s sister and his friends watched the scene, cracking their knuckles and looking ready to join in and get their revenge.

Afraid things would spiral out of control, I quickly notified the werewolf enforcers to make the arrests.

Soon, a team of enforcers burst through the doors and stopped the chaos.

Madeline and Irinda were both arrested and prepared for transport to the enforcers’ station.

Carrion looked confused.

“Thank you for your help, but this is an internal Nightfall Pack matter.
Shouldn’t I have been notified before you took them away?”

The enforcer captain looked at Carrion coldly and stated the truth in a firm voice.

“Alpha, what they did was not nearly that simple.”

“According to our investigation, Luna Madeline and Irinda deliberately provoked Mrs. Vesper at the medical center, causing her death. More importantly, they secretly stole her body and froze it in a secondhand freezer in their basement.”

“Under the rules of this forest, such cruelty must be punished through a public trial.”

Carrion turned and glared furiously at Madeline, who looked utterly disheveled. He was so shocked that his whole body trembled.

He realized he had been deceived.

I had not been the one lying. Madeline had.

My mother really had died, and Madeline and Irinda had driven her to her death together.

They had even stolen my mother’s body, then accused us of lying to win Carrion’s sympathy.

Only then did he understand how desperate I had been when he misunderstood me.

Madeline and Irinda were taken away by the werewolf enforcers.

When they passed in front of me, Irinda, who had always loved

looking beautiful more than anything, was crying so hard that her makeup was smeared.

“Nellie, I’m sorry. You truly treated me as a friend, but I betrayed you out of vanity and helped an outsider hurt you. I’m sorry.”

I watched in cold silence as they were taken away.

What was the point of saying sorry now?

My mother was already gone.

That regret existed only because she knew she could no longer escape punishment.
