The Silver Moon Princess Returns: The Alpha Begins to Regret Chapter 02

I stayed at the gallery until evening, then went home.

The moment I stepped into the pack house, a soft, melodic piano tune floated down from the second floor, along with the scent of an unfamiliar Omega.

Maria, my housekeeper, hurried over with a tight, worried look on her face.

“The Alpha’s back?” I asked.

Daniel had been “working late” at the office for a month straight. It surprised me to find him here now.

Maria hemmed and hawed, rambling on with irrelevant answers. “Luna, you’re back. Are you hungry? I’ll make you something to eat.”

I shook my head. The harsh truth of my mate’s betrayal had left me utterly numb and devoid of any appetite.

I headed up the spiral staircase to see who was playing. Daniel was never that good at piano.

Maria planted herself directly in my path to stop me.

“Luna, you can’t go up there! The Alpha said no one is allowed upstairs right now. He’s handling something important!”

I looked into her panicked eyes. I already had an idea of what was going on.

” Does that rule apply to me too?”

Maria stammered but couldn’t find an answer. I pushed past her and climbed the stairs—then stopped cold at the top.

The floor-to-ceiling windows had no curtains. Under the bright lights, Daniel had his arms around Layla. They were kissing passionately right in front of my beloved Steinway, their fingers still grazing the keys.

Then Daniel lifted Layla up and laid her across the piano. His hands wandered over her soft skin. Fresh love bruises bloomed across their exposed skin.

In that moment, all I could think of was what he had said to me when we first met.

“Emily, I’m cursed with Lunar Withering. No one can touch me except my fated mate. You’re my fated mate.”

I thought I was the only one. But now he was tangled up with another woman. The curse had been a lie from the very start.

A wave of nausea hit me so hard I started gagging.

Before I could pull myself together, Mark, Daniel’s assistant, hurried up the stairs carrying a large, obvious box. He looked up, saw me standing there, and his face went pale. He tried to hide the box behind his back.

“L-Luna…”

But I had already seen what was inside. They were all adult pleasure toys.

Daniel’s impatient voice rang out from upstairs. “Mark! Hurry up with that! If you keep dawdling, I’ll transfer you to the African branch to work out in the wild with lions!”

I saw the helpless, desperate look on Mark’s face. All I felt was anger and shame.

“Go. Don’t keep the Alpha waiting.” My voice came out dry and hollow, as if the wolf inside me had been ripped away.

I forced myself back down the stairs. On my way through the living room, my eyes landed on the bag of ginger tea on the dining table. I had made it that morning for Daniel’s bad stomach.

I thought back to when we first moved here. We could barely make ends meet and lived in a grimy basement back then. He burned the midnight oil day in and day out, dragging himself to endless business drinking gatherings, until he coughed up blood right in front of me.

I thought he was going to die. I held him and sobbed.

But he just smiled and said, “Emily, we can finally afford a real house now.”

He had loved me so much back then. He didn’t love me anymore.

But I still couldn’t hate him.

I handed the ginger tea to Maria.

“Luna, you always make this for the Alpha yourself. Why—”

I cut her off, my voice flat. “Those days are long gone. I doubt his stomach still remembers the warmth of my hands anymore. Anyone can brew this tea now.”

The living room fell into dead silence.

Lewd, intoxicating sounds drifted down from the upper floor. Layla’s soft moans mixed with Daniel’s low groans. I’d reached my breaking point. I bolted out of that stifling pack house all alone.
