Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 09

Luna Returned for Vengeance Chapter 09

Ethan’s POV

In the end, Victor-driven by nothing but love for his daughter-confessed to every crime and took

the fall for all of it.

The Lang family collapsed into chaos. Their stock price crashed. One by one, their business

partners pulled out. In just two short days, the family that had once stood so high and mighty in

New York was on the brink of ruin.

The moment Sophie was released from the Pack Precinct, she called Ethan. She was sobbing,

begging.

“Alpha. Please save my dad. Please save our family. I’m begging you…”

Ethan hung up without a word.

He stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, watching high school students walk home from school. It

reminded him of his own teenage years.

Back then, for reasons he never fully understood, he became the target of school bullying. A group of thugs cornered him in an alley. Fists and insults rained down on him relentlessly. Someone even

picked up a steel pipe.

Just when Ethan thought he might die right there, his best friend-Daniel Lang-stepped in and

took the hit. Bright red blood pooled on the pavement.

From that day on, Ethan made himself a promise: he would spend the rest of his life taking care of

Daniel’s family.

That was why, no matter what trouble Sophie caused, he always cleaned it up for her. Even five years ago, when she drove drunk and killed his own fiancée’s mother-he gritted his teeth and fought for Sophie all the way.

But the Lang family had promised him back then. They swore that Nora had moved abroad and was doing well, that she just didn’t want anything to do with New York anymore. They erased all complaints, rental rejection records and the official assault report from that year without a trace.

They had told him all they wanted was to keep Sophie out of jail. That they wouldn’t go after Nora

anymore.

So why was there a kidnapping? Why were there humiliating photos?

The more Ethan thought about it, the more his chest burned with frustration. He didn’t know what to do anymore.

Then his office door opened. Claire-Nora’s best friend from college-pushed past his assistant

and walked in, her heels clicking against the floor.

She didn’t bother with pleasantries.

“Ethan. Are you still going to stand up for Sophie after everything she’s done?”

Ethan said nothing.

Claire was so angry she slammed her bag down on his desk.

“Do you even realize everything Nora endured five years back? Her mother died. Her father was deathly sick. She was all alone, and the entire New York pack turned against her. She couldn’t land a

job, couldn’t rent a place to live. Even local convenience stores turned her away.

“Then she was abducted, and they forced her into those degrading photos. If I hadn’t found her in

time, those animals would have destroyed her completely.

“Even after all she’d suffered, the Langs still hounded her relentlessly. The online hate mob a few days ago? That was them. The account that doxxed her grandmother’s address traced back to the Lang family’s own PR firm. They killed her grandmother, Ethan.””

Claire’s eyes were red now.

“How can you live with yourself? You and Nora were high school sweethearts. How can you let the people who ruined her life get away scot-free?”

Ethan couldn’t breathe.

He hadn’t known. None of it.

Back then, he had thought she was being stubborn. Impulsive. He had blamed her for canceling the mate ceremony and breaking up with him over nothing,

A tight grip clamped around his chest, leaving him gasping for breath.

He ached for Nora.

But Daniel’s face-bloody, dying-kept flashing in his mind.

Finally, he spoke, his voice low.

“The Langs did me a great favor years ago. I cannot turn my back on them.”

Claire laughed. It was an ugly, bitter sound.

“Saved your life? You mean that school bullying thing?”

Ethan went still.

Claire looked at him, ice cold.

“As it happens, we attended the same high school. And if I remember right, the people who cornered you that day were hired by Sophie.”

Ethan’s face went white.

“What?”

“She had a crush on you,” Claire said. “You never gave her the time of day. So she hired some guys

to teach you a lesson. She just didn’t expect her own brother to end up dead.

“Don’t believe me? Go check for yourself. Two of the guys who did it are still in prison. Ask them.”

Ethan stood there, frozen. His ears were ringing.

All these years, he had believed Daniel died saving him. All these years, he thought he owed the Lang family a life.

So he gave in. Over and over. Looked the other way. Hurt Nora. For Sophie.

But what if Sophie had set the whole thing up? What if Daniel’s death wasn’t a kindness at all—just collateral damage from his own sister’s obsession?

Ethan’s Alpha aura flared out of control, making the office windows rattle softly.

Claire looked him dead in the eye.

“So tell me – will you still cover for Sophie?”
