I Returned the Heart, but the Wolf King Gave Me His Chapter 02

Patricia’s pov

After the one-hour abortion was over, I scheduled the heart removal surgery as I’d hoped.

One week from now.

Stepping out of Wolf Pack Hospital, I pressed a hand to my lower abdomen and breathed slowly, deeply.

After quickly swallowing a painkiller, my phone rang. Alpha Michael.

“Patricia Moore. Be at the Wolf Club in ten minutes.”

“If you’re not there, you know the consequences.”

I shoved the heart removal surgery form into my bag and hurriedly hailed a cab to the Wolf Club.

The moment I walked in, a ball smacked me right in the face.

“Alpha Michael, you called it. It really is Patricia Moore.”

“I almost thought I’d hit the wrong person.”

Alpha Michael’s friend—an Alpha King—spoke with a grin as he retrieved the ball.

My nose throbbed. A sharp, metallic scent flooded my senses.

Drops of blood fell onto the white carpet.

I wiped the blood away, just like I always did, and walked over to Alpha Michael.

His bare chest was marked with fresh hickeys. A woman was draped in his arms.

He swirled the glass in his hand and sneered when he saw me.

“There you are.”

“I lost at cards against the Alpha Kings again today. This bottle of whiskey—finish it for me.”

I had just had an abortion at Wolf Pack Hospital.

I looked at Alpha Michael and forced a smile.

I picked up the whiskey from the table and chugged it straight from the bottle.

The burning liquor seared down my throat.

The pain blurred my vision.

In less than a minute, half the bottle was gone. My stomach churned violently.

But I didn’t stop. I wiped the corner of my mouth and kept drinking what was left.

The cold glass chilled my fingertips. A sharp pain suddenly spiked through my heart.

I dug my fingernails into my palms, trying to steady myself enough to sit down on the sofa and catch my breath.

The woman beside Alpha Michael kicked me to the floor.

Bang!

My head slammed against the ground. I nearly blacked out.

When I pushed myself up, laughter rippled through the private room.

Alpha Michael sat at the center of it all, a faint smile on his lips.

“Enough.”

The room fell silent.

He walked over to me step by step, reached out and pulled me to my feet, then drew a sapphire ring from his pocket—the one from the auction.

The stone was a deep, translucent blue, glittering under the lights of the private room.

Alpha Michael looked at me with dark, unreadable eyes and dropped to one knee.

“Patricia Moore, will you be my Luna?”

Before I could even process it—

A mocking smile twisted the corner of his mouth.

“Have you imagined this a thousand times in your head?”

“You’ve probably already planned exactly how you’d break down crying and say yes.”

“Too bad, Patricia Moore. This ring—the one that marks a Luna—isn’t for you. It’s for her.”

Alpha Michael gestured lazily at the woman beside him.

She wore a white dress, her cheeks flushed, her eyes bright and innocent.

I knew her. She was from the Wolf Pack Theater Troupe—the one he’d been keeping for a while now.

Her name was Mary.

“Mary, hold out your hand.”

Alpha Michael slid the ring onto Mary’s finger and laced his fingers through hers.

He flicked a brief glance at me, his eyes full of endless mockery.

His other hand cupped Mary’s throat with unsettling gentleness. Then he leaned in and kissed her.

They kissed like they were devouring each other. Gasps rippled through the room.

I clutched my aching heart as tears fell silently amid all the noise and heat.

An hour later, Alpha Michael’s gathering with the Alpha Kings ended.

He carried Mary into the car reserved for Alphas, rolled down the window, and spoke to me with practiced ease.

“Patricia Moore, it’s one in the morning. Walk home.”

“And make sure you walk past the crash site.”

“I don’t want you living too comfortably.”
