The Body Swap That Made Her a Billionaire—and Me Awake Chapter 08

Within hours, Kayden summoned the conglomerate’s top legal team to the manor. In front of Arthur, he forced them to draft the ten percent equity transfer and the marriage contract, stamped with the family seal.

“You reckless idiot!” Arthur smashed an antique vase on the floor, shouting in Kayden’s face. “You’d sacrifice our family’s century-old legacy for a single reckless woman?”

Kayden set down his pen. His gaze held no warmth. ‘Grandpa, she saved my life. I’ll earn back every penny

later. But if she dies…”

He paused, each word heavy with finality.

“I’ll burn the entire Hatfield legacy to the ground with her.”

Arthur fell back into his chair, speechless. He saw the wild determination in his grandson’s eyes and knew he

meant it.

From her hospital bed, Evelyn watched the guards carry the papers down to the cell. Her heart twisted in

agony. The comments spammed with worry.

[He’s walking straight into a trap! She’ll never keep her word.]

[Look at her sneaky face. She’s got a devious scheme cooking up.]

[Evelyn’s heart rate is dropping again. She’s fading fast.]

The cell gate creaked open. Lena’s hands shook with greed as she looked at the marriage contract and the

billion-dollar stock deed. She stroked every word, lingering on Kayden’s bold signature.

“It’s all mine. Finally mine.” She threw her head back and laughed like a maniac, her gentle features twisting

into something demonic.

“Now undo the hex, Kayden said. His voice was ice. His hand gripped his gun, veins bulging on his knuckles.

He would shoot the second she tried anything.

Lena folded the papers and tucked them against her chest. She smiled an eerie smile. “You’ve put in so much

effort. Of course I’ll keep my side of the bargain.”

She bit her fingertip open, then knelt to carve an intricate fresh rune right at the center of her dried blood sigil

on the concrete floor. Then she sat cross-legged and began to chant.

The instant the first syllable left her lips, Evelyn jolted upright in her hospital bed as if struck by lightning. A brutal, tearing pain ripped through her skull-like her soul was being shredded from the inside out.

“Ahhh!” She let out a bloodcurdling scream. Her eyes rolled back. Thick black blood gushed from her mouth.

soaking the white sheets. The heart monitor blared a continuous warning as her heart rate plunged.

The comment section exploded in red alerts.

[It’s a trap! She’s not casting the reversal spell at all!]

[It’s an acceleration chant! She’s speeding up the ritual to destroy Evelyn completely!]

[She’s going to wipe Evelyn out and steal everything for herself!]

[Evelyn has less than ten minutes left!]

Kayden couldn’t see the comments, but he sensed something was wrong. Instead of a calm reversal aura, a freezing, evil malice poured off Lena. Her eyes glinted with vengeful triumph.

“You’re dead,” Kayden growled. His eyes blazed red. He kicked the steel gate off its hinges, stormed inside, and grabbed Lena by the throat, lifting her off the floor. “Cut the chant out, right now!”

Veins bulged on his knuckles, his fingers turning white. Lena’s face swelled purple, but between choking coughs, she kept laughing.

“Too little, too late… nothing can change it now!” she gasped, blood on her lips. “Her soul is almost gone. Once she’s dead, I’m Mrs. Hatfield forever.”

“You say you love her? Follow her to hell then.”

Shaking with rage, Kayden pressed his gun to her forehead. “Stop the spell, or I’ll blow your head off.”

“Go ahead!” Lena shrieked, fearless. “The ritual’s locked in place! Break it now, and somebody’s gonna take the fatal backlash! Either she dies, or I die. Would you give your life for a stranger? No one would do that.”

“There’s nothing she can do to save herself.”

Kayden’s hand froze. The warlock’s warning echoed in his head: forcing an early halt would destroy one of their souls completely. Someone had to take the backlash.

Back in the ICU, Evelyn’s consciousness was fading. The world turned gray. Her body felt weightless, ready to

drift away.

Leave me, Kayden. Kill her. Avenge me. She thought the words silently.

On the screen, Kayden suddenly let go. Lena dropped to the floor. The handgun clanged noisily against the concrete. She gasped, clutching her throat, a smug look on her face-until she saw him turn away

He didn’t look at her. Instead, he turned toward the small red surveillance camera in the corner of the cell. He

knew Evelyn was watching. Through the cold lens, his gaze cut across the distance and locked into her

fading eyes.

No fear lingered in his normally icy stare. Only deep, endless love.

He parted his lips and spoke each word slowly.

“What if I’m the one willing to pay the price?”

If someone had to die to reverse the hex and bring Evelyn back, he would give his own soul.

The live broadcast went silent for three full heartbeats. Then the comment wall exploded in a flood of golden

text.

[He’s lost his mind. He’s ready to die for her.]

[No. What happens to Evelyn if he’s gone?]

[This is true love. Money doesn’t stop someone from giving everything.]

[If his soul dissipates, he’s gone forever. No afterlife. Nothing.]

Staring at his face on the screen, Evelyn’s tears poured down her cheeks.

“Don’t…” She scraped together her last bit of strength to force the words out. ” Kayden, please… don’t…”
