The Secret in My Husband’s Sofa Chapter 08

The Secret in My Husband’s Sofa Chapter 08 The Recording

I looked down at him from where I stood and pulled the voice recorder from my pocket, the one I’d had ready all along. I pressed play.

After a few seconds of cold static, Vivian’s flippant voice came through. “Adrian, let’s make the switch right after the christening. I’ve already handled the nurse.

“Both babies are barely a month old. Wrapped in their blankets, nobody can tell them apart. We just swap them while Olivia’s asleep, and no one will be any the wiser.”

Adrian’s voice followed right behind, kept deliberately low with a chilling edge. “You sure about this? Can that nurse be trusted?”

Vivian replied without hesitation. “Don’t worry. Her son is drowning in gambling debt. I gave her 300 thousand dollars. That’s plenty to keep her quiet.”

Vivian let out a soft laugh. “Once my child grows up as the Donovan heir, we can dump Olivia’s brat with some farming family in the sticks. After you divorce her, the three of us can finally be a family.”

“You really do think of everything.” Adrian sounded pleased. “Once the swap is done, I’ll move some company shares into your name as a safety net for you and the child.”

Vivian’s voice came back, a hint of worry creeping in. “But what about Olivia? What if she catches on?”

Adrian’s voice came back, careless. “She just gave birth. Her head’s all over the place. Plus, the babies look enough alike that she’d never notice. And even if she did, no one would believe her crazy talk without proof.”

The recording cut off there. Dead silence dropped over the courtroom.

Charles and Hazel shot up from their seats, hands trembling as they pointed at Adrian.

Charles was shaking from head to toe with rage. He jabbed a finger at his son and let the curses fly. “You… you bastard! What kind of monster turns on their own flesh and blood! How dare you!”

Hazel’s vision went black, and she fainted on the spot.

By now, the gallery had already erupted into total chaos.

Someone burst out. “Oh my god! How could anyone be that inhuman? Plotting to swap the

real baby for the mistress’s child!”

Another shouted. “And that assistant! Those two are cut from the same evil cloth!”

“No wonder Olivia pushed so hard for a divorce. If it were me, I’d have snapped long ago!”

The judge slammed her gavel down. “Order!”

The courtroom slowly settled, and I turned to the judge, my voice clear and steady.

“Your Honor, I think everyone’s heard now. I asked for a divorce, not because I’m heartless. I’d just discovered their plot to swap my own flesh and blood. If I’d shown a sign I knew, they would have gone through with it.”

I pointed at Adrian and Vivian. Every word came out heavy with pain.

“They were plotting against a month-old baby. How could I gamble with my child’s life? I had no choice but to play cruel, ask for a divorce to throw them off, and gather proof to protect my baby!”

I took a deep breath, eyes sweeping over Adrian and Vivian, both pale as ghosts. “Now I’m formally requesting custody of my child, and I demand that Adrian walk away with nothing for committing adultery and conspiring to switch the baby!”

Adrian collapsed on the floor, eyes vacant, muttering to himself. “It’s over… it’s all over…”

Vivian’s face went ashen, and she slumped down, drained of every last bit of fight.
