The Secret in My Husband’s Sofa Chapter 02

The Secret in My Husband’s Sofa Chapter 02 Five Days

Watching me throw a punch sent Charles’s rage into overdrive. “I must have been blind back then to ever let Adrian marry you!”

Once Adrian’s mother, Hazel Donovan, helped Vivian back to her feet, Vivian’s face crumpled into a wounded look. “Mr. Donovan, Mrs. Donovan, please don’t blame Olivia. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have spoken up.

“I shouldn’t have jumped in like that and upset Olivia. She must be hurting to act this way. The baby’s right here. Please don’t keep fighting because of me.”

Watching Vivian like that twisted something in Adrian’s chest. He moved to comfort her. “Vivian, this isn’t on you. You did nothing wrong.”

Then he rounded on me, voice rising in anger. “Olivia, you really chose our child’s christening to ask for divorce? You think because I love you, you can do whatever you damn well please?”

Charles couldn’t listen anymore. He stepped forward and glared at me. “Olivia, are you really set on this divorce? I bet you’ve got someone on the side! How else could you be cold enough to pull this at our grandchild’s christening?”

Realization dawned on Vivian, and she rounded on me. “No wonder! I knew there had to be a reason you wanted out so badly. You’ve got another man! How can you face your child? Or Adrian?”

Adrian’s temper snapped. “Olivia, don’t tell me you actually have someone on the side.”

Vivian kept backing Adrian up, but my face stayed blank. “Whether there’s someone else or not doesn’t matter.

“What matters is that Adrian and I are getting divorced.”

My attitude finally pushed Charles over the edge. He jabbed his finger at the door and roared

at me.

“Fine! You ungrateful little thing, you’re not welcome here! The rest of you, get out with her! You want a divorce? You’ll have one. Five days from now, see you in court. I’ll make you give back every dollar you took from my son!”

My parents wanted to say more, but Charles and Hazel’s vicious glares shut them down.

Once we stepped out of the ward, Dad couldn’t hold back. He grabbed my arm, his face full of confusion.

“Olivia, what’s going on with you? You and Adrian used to be so good together. How can you just throw ‘divorce’ out there at a time like this?” He sighed and got lost in memories.

“I remember when you two first got together. You were head over heels for Adrian. You knew he worked hard, so you cooked his meals and waited up. You even taught yourself massage. How did we get here?”

Dad’s words drew two silent tears from the corners of my eyes.

I wiped my face and lowered my voice. “Dad, that’s all in the past now.”

Once I said it, I broke free from Dad’s grip and headed straight for the elevator.

Once I got downstairs, my old classmate, Malcolm Voss, was waiting by his car.

Once I got in, Malcolm caught my expression and tossed off a teasing line. “Been crying? Looks like the christening was even more of a show than I thought.”

I let out a bitter laugh. “Don’t tease me. I’ll need your help with the court hearing in five days.”

I slipped on my headphones, pulled up a recording, and listened to it again, like punishing myself.
