The Mafia Don’s Broken Wife Chapter 04

When I woke up, I was lying in the crew’s medical van.

Elara muttered beside me, “I’m so stupid. I gave the wrong directions. You won’t blame me, right, Mrs. Voss?”

Kyle held her close, soothing her gently. “Of course she won’t.”

The doctor wanted to say something, but I shook my head.

After an hour of rest, the director pushed us back to filming.

We were driven straight into the jungle.

Elara insisted on coming along.

Snow swallowed our ankles with every step.

I glanced at Kyle without thinking.

Back then, in weather like this, he would’ve carried me so my shoes wouldn’t get wet.

Now, he lifted Elara without hesitation and carried her for a stretch.

Only after a while did he notice I’d fallen behind.

Seeing how pale I was—almost translucent—he fumbled out a weak excuse.

“Elara’s not feeling well.”

I didn’t respond. I just kept walking.

Near the destination, Elara demanded a fire.

Kyle set her down gently and went to gather wood.

Elara checked that the cameras were rolling, then walked up to me, her voice turning cold.

“Lila, Kyle told you he wouldn’t divorce you, right? He lied. Every slip he wrote says ‘divorce.'”

“Know why?” She smiled smugly, one hand stroking her stomach. “I’m pregnant with his child. He wants the whole world to watch your divorce before he marries me.”

My heart, numb for so long, started pounding violently.

She kept going, each word sharper than the last.

“He never cared about the bastard in your belly. That’s why he made you abort it. Do you know what it looked like? Purple when it came out—”

Blood surged up my throat.

Before anyone could react, I lunged at her, my hands clamping around her neck.

“You bitch! Give my child back! Give him back!”

In the struggle, someone slapped me hard and threw me aside.

Elara screamed, “Kyle! Help! Lila’s trying to kill me!”

“I’m bleeding! Our baby—our baby’s gone!”

I tumbled down the slope.

When I looked up, Kyle stood above me, staring down, his face dark with fury.

“Lila, if anything happens to Elara or my child, you’ll pay for it.”

He scooped Elara into his arms and turned away without a second glance, only shouting, “Let her stay down there and think about what she’s done. No one pulls her up.”

The director hesitated. “Kyle, it’s freezing out there. There are wolves in the mountains—”

“I don’t care,” Kyle cut him off coldly. “She attacked Elara. A few wolves won’t be a problem for her. Pull the crew out now. Anyone who helps her loses all funding.”

The taste of iron filled my throat.

I coughed up more blood and called out weakly, “Kyle.”

He paused for a second, but he never turned around.

He didn’t hear my final whisper.

“Happy tenth anniversary.”

Snow covered my body.

At last, I couldn’t feel the pain anymore.
