The Mafia Don’s Broken Wife Chapter 03

The Mafia Don’s Broken Wife Chapter 03

Kyle took her skiing in Moher, vacationing in Bali, chasing the Northern Lights in Santa Claus Village.

The pain from the cancer made it hard to focus.

Only later did I realize—those were the exact honeymoon destinations Kyle and I had planned years ago.

My finger hovered over the screen, until a drop of blood from my nose fell onto a photo of the aurora.

I rushed to wipe it off, but accidentally hit “like.”

Seconds later, Kyle called from an unfamiliar number, his voice tight.

“Lila, it’s Elara’s birthday today. That’s why I took her abroad.”

I wiped the blood away and said softly, “It’s fine.”

His tone relaxed. “After the show, my hundred-bet deal with Elara will be over. When we get back, I’ll celebrate our anniversary properly with you.”

A girl’s voice cut in from the background. “Kyle, the fireworks are starting!”

He hung up immediately.

I stared blankly at the reminder on my phone.

Tomorrow was our tenth wedding anniversary.

And my time was running out.

Nearly half my life had been spent loving Kyle.

The next day, Kyle actually showed up on time.

I wore the pale yellow dress I had on when we first got together, but I took off the wedding ring I’d worn for years.

It hadn’t fit for a long time, yet I could never bring myself to remove it.

When I walked out, Kyle stared at me for a long moment, then smiled and reached for my hand.

“Lila, you’re too thin. Eat more.”

Just like when we were young—he used to give me the last pieces of meat from his plate and gently pat my head.

Then Elara’s voice cut in, sharp and mocking.

“Mrs. Voss, you’re a movie star. Dressed like that, you’re embarrassing Kyle.”

She looked me up and down and giggled.

Kyle just flicked her forehead fondly, then turned to me.

“Elara’s joining us for the jungle trek today.”

She lifted her chin proudly. “I’m the producer-director now. You’d better behave, or I’ll have the crew shoot you from your worst angles.”

Kyle laughed and agreed without hesitation.

In the car, Elara took the passenger seat and flashed me a grin.

“Sorry, Mrs. Voss. I get carsick. You’ll have to sit in the back.”

I said nothing and climbed into the back seat.

They chatted happily the whole ride.

I closed my eyes to rest, but Kyle kept glancing at me through the rearview mirror.

Elara noticed that.

She suddenly cried out in pain.

Kyle slammed on the brakes. “Elara, what’s wrong?”

She clutched her stomach. “It hurts so bad!”

Kyle looked straight at me. “Get out. I’m taking her to the hospital.”

I stared at the snow-covered wilderness.

Following Elara’s directions, he drove off the main road, leaving the crew behind.

Elara pretended to be anxious.

“This isn’t fair! We can’t delay her shoot,” she complained, her voice growing louder.

Kyle lost patience completely and yanked me out of the car.

“The crew will catch up soon. Wait here. Elara’s fragile—she can’t handle the cold.”

His car drove off, leaving me alone in the snow.

I could barely stand.

The snowfall grew heavier.

I waited for three hours, blood-stained tissues piling up around me.

Just as I was about to freeze solid, a familiar figure came running toward me.

“Lila!”
