On Children’s Day, My Future Daughter Called—He Got Exposed Chapter 06

Gavin froze mid-step.

He stared at my father on the stage in disbelief, as if he thought my father was joking.

A wave of laughter rose from the audience, not too loud but just loud enough to reach his ears.

The representative from the Shaw Group walked past him and knocked him aside.

A trace of mockery appeared in the man’s eyes.

“Sorry, Mr. Grant. This one is ours.”

“This project is a tough one. Mr. Winters Sr. must have been worried you’d gotten too used to living off his daughter to handle real work.”

Gavin was used to being praised by everyone, so that moment of ridicule left him utterly humiliated.

He stood there, his face going hot with rage and humiliation.

Seeing that both sides were about to sign the agreements, Gavin rushed forward like a madman.

“No! You can’t sign!”

My dad looked at him with irritation and gave the security guards at the door a nod.

“Wendy promised this project to me. Mr. Winters Sr., aren’t you afraid Wendy will come make a scene if you do this?”

“Do you realize you’re destroying our relationship?”

My dad had disliked Gavin for a long time. Now that I had given up on him completely, my dad no longer had to hold back.

“Relationship?”

“You must be joking, Mr. Grant. I’ve already started looking at suitable fiancé candidates for my daughter from families that match ours. We wouldn’t dare reach so high as you.”

“I hear your girlfriend is already pregnant. In that case, you should stay home and spend more time with her.”

“As for this project, I have someone else in mind.”

After saying that, he gave Gavin no chance to argue and had security drag him out.

In front of every company there, and in front of the media, Gavin lost every last bit of dignity.

He went home in a daze.

When he reached the front door, he stopped at the sight of the shoes by the entryway.

When I had lived there, everything had always been kept neat and orderly.

Now the shoe cabinet area was a complete mess.

Hailey’s shoes were scattered everywhere.

Gavin sighed and opened the cabinet, intending to tidy it up.

The moment he opened it, he froze.

Every pair of my shoes was gone.

The uneasy feeling in Gavin’s chest grew stronger. Flustered, he pulled out his phone and called me again.

Only then did he realize I had blocked him.

He shoved the door open and rushed into the guest bedroom in a blind panic.

He began digging through drawers and cabinets, only to keep confirming that every single one of my things had been taken away.

A suppressed anger burned inside Gavin, and the humiliation he had suffered during the day surged straight to his head.

He changed to a new number and kept texting me.

Gavin: [Wendy, how could you lie to me? Just because I said something in anger yesterday, you made your dad humiliate me like this?]

Gavin: [You took all your things away because you’re trying to play hard to get, aren’t you?]

Gavin: [I’m telling you now, if you don’t make up for the losses this time, we’re done for good.]

In the past, I had always replied to Gavin’s messages within seconds. This time, Gavin held his phone and waited for an hour.

Eventually, he ran out of patience.

He picked up his phone and called me again.

But to his surprise, even the new number had been blocked.

Gavin was so furious that he kicked the door.

The noise was loud enough to wake Hailey from sleep.

“Gavin, what happened?”

Hailey rubbed her eyes and walked out of the bedroom.

Gavin quickly composed himself and apologized to her softly.

“Sorry, Hailey. I woke you.”

“Wendy didn’t show up today. She deliberately got mad at me and had her dad give the project to someone else.”

Hailey saw the loss in Gavin’s eyes.

She went back into the room, took out her phone, and held it up in front of him.

On the screen was a sunset photo I had posted from Vancouver on Instagram.

Hailey spoke in a hurt voice.

“Regretting it?”

“Then go find her.”
