The Lawyer’s Lie Chapter 15

The Lawyer’s Lie Chapter 15

Something flickered in Julian’s eyes.

Wendy laughed, the sound raw and bitter.

“You were jealous of Noah. You couldn’t stand the fact that she always put him first in her heart.”

“The more she fought for him, the colder you became toward her. Did you think I couldn’t see it?”

The staff members beside them lowered their heads, too afraid to make a sound.

Julian still said nothing.

“I did so much for you…” Wendy’s voice dropped.

“For all these years, I stayed by your side. Whatever you asked of me, I did it. What does she have that I

don’t?”

She lifted her head, her eyes bloodshot.

“She only ever cared about her brother! She never put you first!”

“But I’m different. To me, you are the most important person…”

“Enough.” Julian finally spoke, his voice low and cold.

Wendy froze.

Julian looked at her as calmly as if she were a stranger.

“Before I sent you here for treatment, I made myself clear,” he said. “Once the treatment is over, you’ll leave

the country.”

Wendy’s lips trembled.

“As for those questions you asked,” he paused, “who matters most in Clara’s heart has nothing to do with

you.”

Julian raised one hand, and a stronger round of electric shocks began.

This time, Wendy no longer had the strength to speak.

When she was barely clinging to life, she finally regretted it. She should never have crossed Clara Bennett, and now she was paying the price for what she had done.

She finally understood that in Julian’s eyes, she could be difficult and unreasonable, but there was only one unforgivable sin.

It was hurting Clara Bennett.

Julian was always cold, but deep down, he had always been mad for Clara.

He faced the world with reason and restraint, but the moment Clara was involved, all of that reason

disappeared.

Wendy stared at the man’s back and remembered the first time they had met years ago.

He had not been famous yet, but there were still so many people who wanted him as their mentor. Yet he had

chosen her.

Blushing, she had asked, “Julian, why did you choose me?”

He had been unusually honest. “Maybe because, for one moment, you reminded me of an actress I liked.”

She had asked, “Who? What famous actress? Do you know her?”

But his thoughts had seemed to drift somewhere far away again. “She isn’t very famous. Maybe if I take on

more cases, I’ll meet her someday.”

Wendy finally understood.

In Julian’s heart, from the very beginning and forever after, she had never been able to compare to Clara

Bennett.

After the final shock, Wendy vomited blood and lost consciousness.

When it was all over, Julian sent Clara the video of Wendy’s trial.

The message went out.

One day passed, then two, then three, and still there was no reply.

Every message he sent sank without a trace.

Julian finally panicked. He did not want to admit it, but he had to: he could no longer stay rational, and he

had to go find her.

In truth, Clara had seen everything.

At first, her chest still ached when she saw it. But soon, she deleted all of it and went back to working on

Mia’s case.

Several of the people involved were already behind bars, but she wanted every last one of them.

One by one, she filed charges. One by one, she sent them to prison, until the last one was behind bars.

After it was over, she buried Mia.

Noah stood beside her and gently pulled her into his arms, offering silent comfort.

After a long while, Noah let go of her and signed, “Everything here is settled. Do you want to leave the

country with me?”

Clara looked into his eyes.

She knew he did not want to stay in this country anymore.

The memories here were too heavy. His own identity, what had happened to his sister, and everything else

made him want to escape.

Clara shook her head, and Noah froze.

Then she suddenly smiled. “I’m getting engaged.”

Noah’s hands stopped in midair.

He looked at her, his eyes full of surprise.

“Who with?”

“Asher Blackwood,” Clara said, lowering her head. “The little boy who used to follow me everywhere when we

were kids, the one with the runny nose.”

Noah stared at her for several seconds.

Clara continued, “The engagement party is tonight. The invitations have already gone out.”
