He Proposed… Three Years Too Late Chapter 06

The scandalous news was only the first step-I knew it wasn’t enough to take down Caldwell Group entirely.

I leaked it merely to avenge his infidelity all those years ago.

In fact, I had been planning the acquisition for two years, long before returning to the country.

Every project Caldwell Group had undertaken in the past six months had been subtly manipulated by me, because Grayson would never suspect that the assistant he trusted most was actually my agent.

His personal assistant was a student I had funded. I had arranged for them to enter Caldwell Group and, over the course of a year, rise to their current position.

Through this assistant, I learned the details of many of Caldwell Group’s projects, including their tax

evasion schemes-but I lacked concrete evidence.

I only needed one opportunity, one chance to obtain proof.

Today, my visit to Caldwell Group was precisely to elicit that chance from Grayson himself.

The moment I left Caldwell Group, I compiled all the evidence and submitted it to the relevant authorities, filing a formal, named complaint against their financial misconduct.

Within a week, Caldwell Group collapsed.

Every project Grayson had managed began to unravel.

His resort development hit an archaeological site and was forced to halt.

His shopping mall project ran into planning issues and shut down.

Most disastrous of all, his overseas venture ran out of cash entirely, breaking the company’s financial

chain.

Even Grayson’s proud father had no way to intervene and was soon arrested.

With nowhere else to turn, Grayson came to Hartman Group, desperate.

“Alexa… please… save Caldwell Group,” he begged.

It was the first time he had ever lowered his head to me.

“Fine. 30 million for the acquisition,” I said coldly, stating my price.

Grayson slammed his fist on the table. “That’s thirty percent below market value! How can you be so

ruthless?”

This time, I truly laughed. “Isn’t this the last possible solution to save Caldwell Group? If you don’t pay the

owed taxes, your dad will rot in prison.”

Grayson hesitated, unwilling to sign.

“Alexa, we grew up together. Do you have to be this heartless?”

I smiled. “After all the kisses and cuddles you shared with your little ‘sister,’ are you seriously invoking our childhood friendship? In our world, there’s no such thing as true feelings. Power is everything. You squandered your own company by neglecting it. Don’t come here trying to play the sentiment card on me.

Grayson stood frozen, unable to speak a single word.

Everything I had said was the truth.

I shook my head and signaled for him to be escorted out.
