He Proposed… Three Years Too Late Chapter 05

Grayson hadn’t even processed what was happening. He blurted out instinctively, “Mr. Hearst… of course

not! I only said I wanted Hartman Group to fail. How could I ever disrespect your wife?”

To his shock, the “Mr. Hearst” he had just spoken to stepped forward. In one swift motion, he pulled me

into his arms and said sharply, “Alexa is my wife!”

Grayson froze, completely dumbfounded.

I looked at Lucas Hearst’s mischievous expression and finally realized the surprise he had promised me

before I returned to the country.

So this was what he meant.

I couldn’t help but smile and lightly pinch Lucas’s cheek.

Then, I pulled out the acquisition documents and turned my cold gaze toward Grayson. “Sign.”

Lucas’s voice carried a quiet threat. “You can choose-be acquired, or face liquidation. Your call.”

“Why?” Grayson slammed the contract aside, his face a mix of anger and wounded pride. “Do we have no

courtesy left at all?”

I let out a long sigh, relieved that I no longer had to pretend. Acting for hours had been exhausting.

Raising an eyebrow, I said, “Didn’t I make it perfectly clear yesterday? Our relationship is over. You just refused to believe it.”

“What gives you the right to acquire Caldwell Group? We have estimates of Hartman Group’s cash flow- it’s nowhere near enough for this purchase.” Grayson finally sounded slightly rational, but he still hadn’t grasped the full picture.

“My husband is Lucas Hearst-a world-renowned investor. Do you really think we’d lack the funds to buy Caldwell Group?”

Grayson’s fury erupted. He grabbed his phone and hurled it to the ground, shattering it into pieces.

“You… you and your husband secretly stole Caldwell Group’s business and cut off its cash flow? You did all this to get revenge on me?”

I smiled, amused that he had guessed correctly.

“Revenge?” I glanced at him with disdain. “Maybe a little. But the main reason is that I want Caldwell

Group-it’s a fat, juicy asset.”

Grayson might lack business talent, but Caldwell Group’s roots ran deep in the city. To enter the market

without affecting Hartman Group, acquiring Caldwell Group was the best move.

“You think a little scandal could tear Caldwell Group apart? I won’t agree to the acquisition. My father

won’t either. He’ll find a way to save Caldwell Group.”

I smoothed my hair and bent down to pick up the contract from the floor.

“Then I’ll wait for your dad to work his magic. When you regret this, call me.”

Without another word, I turned and walked out.
