IT’S MY PRIVATE TIME, CALL 911- My Husband Blunted My 99 SOS Calls as an On-the-Job Injury Chapter 06

“It’s me.” Cecilia wrapped her arms around his waist. Her hands slipped beneath the collar of his shirt.

Jared shoved her back. “What are you doing?”

Cecilia stood beside the bed, her camisole slipping off one shoulder. Her eyes were heavy with invitation. “Jared, don’t you want me?”

Jared sat straight up, his voice sharp. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

Tears spilled over her lashes. “You spend every day with me, call me, spoil me, buy me gifts and watch fireworks by the river with me. Don’t you love me?”

Jared ran a hand through his hair, overcome with irritation. “You’ve misunderstood everything. You remind me of my late sister—the same liveliness, the same way of speaking. I was only nice to you because you reminded me of my sister. Nothing more.”

He stood and turned his back to her. “Leave. Move out tomorrow.”

Cecilia froze, her face twisting with fury.

The next day, she deliberately tripped and tumbled down the stairs. Lying on the floor, she looked up at Jared tearfully. “I fell. It hurts so much. Stay with me.”

Jared stood at the top of the stairs, his tone icy. “I told you to leave.”

“I’m hurt,” she whimpered.

Jared let out a cold snort. “Call an ambulance. I’m done.”

Cecilia was sent away. The villa fell completely silent.

Jared sank onto the sofa, clutching the abortion paperwork and staring at it repeatedly. Why had she gotten pregnant again? And why had she chosen to end it?

Memories from three years ago flooded his mind.

She had been pregnant then too, and suffered severe hemorrhage during labor. She had called him countless times, yet he had grown annoyed, thinking she was overreacting, and ignored every call.

They had lost the baby. He had mourned the loss, but Rachel had broken down, arguing and fighting with him endlessly. He had thought her unreasonable and fled to the office to avoid her.

After that, she had grown quiet and never fought with him again. He had foolishly believed she had finally matured. Now he knew the truth — she had simply given up on him.

Had she lost all hope in him? Was that why she couldn’t bear to carry this child? A piercing pain twisted his heart.

His phone rang suddenly. His assistant’s voice shook over the phone. “Mr. Howard, we found surveillance footage from the cruise ship. You… you need to see this.”

Jared opened the video sent to his phone. On screen, Rachel stood by the deck railing, her face streaked with tears.

The wind tangled her hair as she stared down at the dark water. Then she climbed over the railing without a moment’s hesitation and jumped.

Jared shot to his feet.

Recalling everything that had happened that day on the cruise, he raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face.
