My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 16

My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 16

I strode straight toward the lounge area.

Brian and Margaret were sprawled across the leather sofas, their feet propped on the coffee table like they

owned the place.

Margaret was wearing my designer coat. The buttons were stretched so tight they looked ready to pop, like a

clown squeezed into someone else’s clothes.

Employees and clients pointed and whispered. They did not care. If anything, they looked smug.

The second Brian saw me, he sprang up and jabbed a finger at my face, “Elowen. You shameless bitch. You

finally decided to show up?”

Margaret shrieked right along with him, “Everyone, come look! This is the woman who fooled around outside

and now wants to divorce her husband. And your company still keeps trash like this?”

The lobby erupted.

I watched them with a flat stare and walked over without slowing. “This is a company, not a street market. If

you want to make a scene, go home.”

My tone set Brian off. He bounced on his heels, furious, “A company? Oh, you remember this is a company

now?”

He lunged and grabbed my wrist in a vise. “Come home with me! Letting you leave was just anger talking. Get back and cook for my mom. She wants clam chowder tonight.”

“Let go.” My voice was ice.

“No. I’m your husband. It’s my right to keep you in line.”

His grip tightened until it burned.

Margaret rushed in too, claws out, reaching for my face. “You little temptress! Shameless woman! I’ll teach

you some manners myself today!”

Security hurried over and tried to pull them back.

“Don’t touch me!” Margaret screamed. “Anyone lays a hand on me and I’ll drop right here!”

She instantly went limp like she was about to throw herself on the floor.

The guards hesitated, stuck.

Brian grew bolder. He scanned the lobby, and his eyes landed on the detailed architectural model on the

display stand.

It was the centerpiece for the company’s bid. The team had pulled three all-nighters to finish it. It was due to

be delivered for the presentation that afternoon.

“So you’re not coming home, huh? You think this lousy company matters more than your family?”

Something vicious flashed in his eyes.

“Then I’ll make sure you don’t have a job to go back to.”

He shoved me aside and charged the display, snatching a fire extinguisher from the wall.

Then he swung it down onto the model.

Crash!

The glass cover shattered. The model split with a sickening crack.

Everyone froze.

“Break it!” Margaret shouted, thrilled. “Smash it all!”

She grabbed a vase from a side table and hurled it to the floor.

Brian turned back, his face twisted with satisfaction.

“Elowen, now you’ve lost your job too. Let’s see how arrogant you are now. Come home and serve us like

you’re supposed to.”

The lobby went dead silent.

I looked at the wreckage, smoothed my sleeve, and walked up to him slowly, “Brian, you truly did a wonderful

job here.”

I took out my phone and started recording, panning over the shattered pieces before lifting the camera to his smug face, and his mother’s.

“I’m just wondering if your paycheck is going to cover a five-million-dollar model.”
