My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 15

My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 15

I ignored them and packed quickly.

When I reached for the unopened La Mer cream on my vanity, Margaret suddenly charged in.

“Hey! You can’t take that!” She slapped her hand over mine and clamped onto the box. “My son paid for this!

What right do you have to take it?”

I yanked my hand back and said flatly, “That cream was over three grand. That’s your son’s entire monthly

paycheck. You really think he could afford it?”

Margaret spat. “Yeah, right! As if a lowly office worker like you could afford fancy cream like this!”

Her eyes darted, and she snatched the jar outright.

“You must’ve bought this with that other man’s money too! Filthy thing. I wouldn’t even use it on my feet, but

it still belongs in this house!”

Brian stepped in and blocked my path.

“My mom’s right. Elowen, if you want to leave, fine. But you leave the valuables behind.”

“That coat you’re wearing, that bag. What wasn’t bought with family money?”

“If you’re cutting ties, cut them clean. Don’t shout divorce while you’re hauling off our hard-earned cash.”

I looked at his righteous, thieving face and almost laughed.

“You want it? Sure.” I pulled off my coat and threw it onto the bed.

I slid my bag off my shoulder and tossed it over. “Take it.”

I tore off my necklace, unclasped my watch, and dropped them one by one at their feet.

“Want my shoes too? My socks?”

I lifted my foot like I was about to take my shoes off, eyes locked on Brian.

He stiffened.

His gaze swept over the pile on the bed, his throat bobbing, his eyes practically shining.

“Alright. At least you know your place.”

He waved a hand like he was doing me a favor. “Get out. And remember, you chose to leave with nothing.”

Margaret had already pounced on my coat, forcing her arms into the sleeves. It was too small and the

buttons wouldn’t even come close to closing, but she still twisted in front of the mirror, pleased as could be.

“Oh, this fabric is nice. Smooth as silk. This is mine now.”

Watching the absurd scene, I pulled up my suitcase. I was left in a thin blouse, and I walked out.

The late-fall night was cold. Wind slipped into my collar, but I felt lighter than I had in years.

“Elowen!” Right as I was about to step out the door, Brian shouted from behind me.

“Don’t think hiding outside for a few days will settle this! If you ever want to come back, you’ll kneel and apologize to my mother, and you’ll confess who that man really is!”

“And from now on, your salary card will be handed over to me!”

I stopped, but I didn’t turn around. I left him one sentence, “Brian, enjoy these last few days of your good life.”

The door slammed shut behind me, cutting that suffocating house off for good.

I took out my phone and dialed a number.

“Mr. Wright, it’s Elowen Hart. I’m taking the offer you mentioned at the multinational.”

“And one more thing. Please find me the best divorce attorney you can. I want certain people to spit out

everything they swallowed, bone and all.”

Over the next few days, I went straight back to my old office building.

It was my last day handing things over, and my last day as the branch’s deputy president.

The moment I walked into the lobby, the receptionist rushed over, breathless, “Ms. Hart, something’s wrong.

Your husband and his mom are making a scene in the lobby. They won’t leave without seeing you.”

I frowned. They got here fast. Without my money supporting them, their lives must already be unraveling.
