“Don’t celebrate too soon.” Ethan walked to the window and looked out at Seattle’s skyline.

“Lynn isn’t easy to handle. Her return isn’t just about Zachary.”

I smelled gossip and sidled up to him.

“What do you mean? Does she want both of you?”

No wonder she was running to Ethan today – keeping her options open.

“Everyone wants the Collins fortune,” Ethan said, turning to face me.”

Zachary has a decent share not as much as me, but enough.

If she was willing to fake her own death to chase money back then, she’s certainly willing to come back for

more now.”

I nodded.

Compared to her, I was a model employee – I only took what I earned.

“So for now, you stay by my side.” Ethan’s tone left no room for argument.

“Before the Collins family banquet next month, we need everyone to believe you’re mine.”

My eyes went wide.

“Family banquet? I have to meet your family?”

That was way outside my contract.

I was about to argue for a raise when the office door slammed open with a deafening crash.

I yelped and instinctively hid behind Ethan.

At the door, Zachary rushed in like an enraged lion, his eyes bloodshot, chest heaving.

His gaze swept the room and landed on me – still tucked behind Ethan.

“Chloe, get over here!” he roared, striding toward us.

I clutched Ethan’s jacket, poked my head out, and watched him warily.

Ethan shifted slightly, shielding me completely.

“Zachary, this is a company, not a place for you to throw a fit.”

His voice wasn’t loud, but it carried authority.

Zachary was forced to stop. He clenched his fists, veins bulging.

“Brother, what the hell are you doing?” he spat, his voice full of resentment.

“You know she’s mine. Why are you meddling? Did you do this on purpose?”

Ethan pushed his glasses up, a cold smile curving his lips.

“Yours? At the restaurant yesterday, who was it that called her my little pet in front of Lynn? Since you don’t

want her, why shouldn’t I take her off your hands?”
