Don’t Flatter Yourself, I Won’t Haunt You After Prison Release Chapter 07

Amarok Thorne POV

What had I just heard?

Velvela never lied.

Thalyn’s birth mother was the rogue who killed the Luna. She’d murdered three lives-Mom and her unborn

twin daughters.

Thalyn’s sad stories were just tricks to make me pity her.

And I… I sent the wronged Velvela to prison. I even helped her deadbeat dad take away her inheritance.

My worst fear came true. I destroyed Velvela’s life.

Guilt, grief, and shame crashed over me. I thought my soul would break.

Velvela POV

“It’s not true, honey! Listen to me!” Thalyn begged. “I was lying to make her mad!”

“I love you so much! I got scared you’d go back to her! I had to act tough to warn her!”

“I’ve been your mate for seven years! You know me! You know how hard it was to pretend to be mean!”

“And she ruined my face! I have every right to hate her!”

She cried hard, shaking, her makeup running to reveal real scars.

Korbin even looked conflicted. Then he linked me, “Her story’s sad, but I believe you, Luna.”

Heavy footsteps approached. A familiar, strong alpha pheromone filled the shop. Everyone went quiet.

He had dark black hair, forest-green eyes, and a tall, strong build with two fierce scars. It was my mate, my

alpha-Cathwulf Ashgrove.

He nodded at me, then turned to Amarok. “Alpha of Nightshade Pack, you came to discuss the border, not

start trouble.”

Amarok frowned. “Alpha of Valehowl Pack, I found my former mate here. I need to handle personal matters.”

Cathwulf laughed coldly. He stood beside me. “What are you doing to my Luna?”

“Your Luna?” Amarok shouted, staring at me. “You’re a mechanic! How is your mate an alpha?”

“I don’t see why a Luna can’t fix cars,” I said calmly.

“Luna works here to protect us!” Korbin yelled. “Rogues have been attacking border folks. We’re just omegas. She moved here to keep us safe! She’s kind, like the Moon Goddess! Not evil like they say!”

Other omegas cheered and backed me up.

“Mom’s the best!” my kids yelled.

Cathwulf smiled warmly at me.

“I’m always on your side.”

I smiled truly.

Amarok froze. He remembered the first night we met. I was the moonlight dancer, loved by all. He’d stared at

me like I was the only wolf in the world.

Now he stared at me with the same look, bitter and broken. He whispered the same word, “Mate.”

“Not yours,” Cathwulf snarled. “She’s my Luna.” He bared his fangs.

“Calm down,” I said, kissing his cheek. I turned to Amarok. “There’s a way to prove Thalyn’s lying. Make her

swear before the Moon Goddess statue.”

“I have evidence too,” Cathwulf said. “Wilderun’s healer will testify. Thalyn bragged about her crimes.”

I stared at him, shocked. “When did you…?”

“I’ve been trying to free you from your past,” Cathwulf said, his green eyes soft. “I love you more than

anything.”

Tears stung my eyes.

Thalyn went pale, but she refused to back down.

“Amarok,” she sobbed. “My mom made me do it! She’s my mom-I couldn’t say no! And Velvela… I just love

you so much. I’d do anything to stay with you, even be a servant. Don’t doubt my heart.”

Amarok stood stiff and lost.

He looked down at her hand reaching for him.

Everyone could see he still cared for her. That’s why she used it as her last hope.

If Amarok stood by her, she’d get away with everything.

Cathwulf laughed coldly, shattering her fantasy.

“You love him? I don’t think so.”
