Farewell, My Don Chapter 07

Farewell, My Don Chapter 07

Genevieve’s POV

The guests in the ballroom were startled by the sudden commotion, rushing out to see what had happened.

The scene was chaotic; people were shouting, some were calling for an ambulance, while others were busy trying to help.

But in my mind, only the image of them kissing remained, refusing to fade.

I stood at the edge of the crowd, watching this farce unfold, feeling nothing but disgust.

As the distant wail of an ambulance siren approached, I turned and walked away quietly, without looking back.

Dominic was hospitalized.

I didn’t go to see him. I stayed home alone, reading, watching movies, and packing my luggage.

Until late one night, the butler called.

“Madam, could you come to the hospital? The master’s stomach is hurting again, and it’s severe. The doctor’s medicine isn’t working at all. He’s covered in sweat and won’t let the nurses near him. Before, only you could help him by massaging to make him comfortable… we really don’t know what to do, Madam. We beg of you…”

I walked to the window and looked out; the entire city was shrouded in a torrential downpour.

“It’s raining very hard. I’m not going.”

The butler was stunned into silence. A few seconds later, he stammered, “Madam? What did you say?”

I said, “The rain is too heavy, and I don’t want to go out. I won’t be coming tonight.”

“But the master, he…”

“I’m going to sleep.” I interrupted him. “Goodnight.”

I hung up the phone, turned off my cell, climbed into bed, and isolated myself from the world.

Dominic was discharged early and returned to the villa.

His face was still pale as he walked toward me while I was sitting on the sofa reading.

“Last night…” he said in a low voice, “did the butler call you?”

“Mhm.” I turned a page without looking up.

“Why didn’t you come?” Dominic asked, his voice tight with suppressed emotion. “Before… no matter the weather, even if I just said I was slightly unwell, you would come immediately.”

I stopped turning the page and looked up at him, my gaze calm and devoid of emotion.

“Like you said, that was in the past. People change, Dominic.”

Dominic opened his mouth but found himself unable to say anything.

“In a few days,” he tried again, his voice much softer as if trying to prove something, “is our wedding anniversary. You always said you wanted to celebrate it properly. This year, I’ll host a party for you—invite everyone and make it special. Okay?”

He looked at me, waiting for a reaction.

I gave him a glance, my expression unchanged.

“Whatever.”

The same old story—forget it.

Dominic tugged at his tie irritably.

But he still began preparing for the party.

On the anniversary, I wore the custom gown he had meticulously chosen and the priceless diamond jewelry he had given me, linking my arm with his as we entered the ballroom.

Everyone looked at us with envy.

“The Donna is so lucky.”

“The Don dotes on her so much.”

“I heard that jewelry sold for tens of millions at auction.”

I listened to the whispers, smiling politely, though I felt nothing inside.

Halfway through the party, I went out to the balcony for some air.

I hadn’t been standing there long when I heard footsteps behind me. It was Amara.

“What are you doing here?” I turned to face her.

“Dominic invited me.” Amara leaned against the railing and smiled, “He said today is your wedding anniversary and wanted me to witness your happiness.”

She paused, her smile turning somewhat spiteful. “Genevieve, are you happy?”

I said nothing.

Amara took a step closer and whispered, “I know you’re not. Dominic’s heart is mine. You’re just a pitiful substitute. He even…”

“Amara,” I interrupted her, my voice cold and dangerous. “You are noisy and pathetic, like a child throwing a tantrum because they didn’t get candy. What happens between Dominic and me is our business, but as for you?”

“A loser living in the past who needs to provoke others to prove her existence? You aren’t worth wasting my time on.”
