Betray the Mafia Heiress? You’re Finished. Chapter 02

Today marked the sixth anniversary of my marriage to Cian.

It was also the day he finally rebuilt everything he had lost.

I’d gone back to the manor just for this day, picking out a fine red wine from my father Don Valenti’s private collection to celebrate.

What a waste, in the end, I never even got a single sip.

“Hazel, you’ve lost your mind! I’m pressing charges, and you’ll rot in jail for this!”

I’d held nothing back when I swung the wine bottle.

The blow split Cian’s forehead open, blood streaming nonstop.

In a few seconds, the gauze in her hands was soaked through.

Elara’s face burned with rage. She supported his dizzying frame and spat vicious threats at me.

Shortly after they left, Florence called.

Her tone was cold and detached, “Cian just showed up for a forensic injury evaluation, accompanied by some woman. Is that the same one from before?”

I mumbled a dull response in agreement.

I could never understand where everything had gone wrong.

When I first got together with Cian, he barely had five hundred dollars to his name.

Even so, he’d worked back-to-back shifts without rest just to buy me a two-thousand-dollar necklace for my birthday.

I’d hated seeing him push himself so hard, and told him, “You know, I don’t need anything this expensive. As long as it comes from you, I’ll love it.”

But he’d shaken his head, refusing to listen.

He spoke earnestly, “I won’t let you suffer because of me. You’re my girlfriend, and you deserve only the best. Give me time, Hazel, and I’ll give you a good life.”

Cian had been my first love, the very first person I ever had feelings for.

I’d always believed two people who truly loved each other should have no secrets.

I’d planned to tell him the truth about my family.

But Florence had stopped me before I could.

“People change”, she’d said coldly. “You can’t guarantee he’ll love you the same forever. If his love is real, your family name will never matter to him.”

My parents also said that any man who wanted to marry into our family would have to pass the test.

I’d decided to wait until his company was fully stable, then tell him everything.

But I never expected that on the very day I made up my mind to come clean, Elara showed up at my door.

Cian had hidden her perfectly. I would have never known she existed if she hadn’t come looking for me.

When she shoved divorce papers in my face and demanded I leave with nothing, I’d tackled her to the ground and ruined her pretty face with my fists.

Cian rushed home soon after.

By then, Elara’s face was already swollen and battered.

She sat on the floor in a crumpled mess, sobbing brokenly. “Cian, help me… I’m scared.”

I still remembered the cold, icy glare he’d shot me as he took her away that day.

Florence had said nothing when I told her what happened.

She only sighed, “The company’s been busy lately. Come back when you’ve had your fun. Stop wasting your time on people who aren’t worth it.”

Cian did not come home that night.

Elara, fearless or just plain stupid, sent me a video.

In the video, the very same people who had once given Cian a wide berth were now gathered around him, chatting him up like old friends.

“Cian, with where you stand now, Hazel just isn’t good enough for you anymore. The moment you got your money back, you brought Elara straight over from Europe. Just divorce Hazel and marry her instead.”

“Heard Hazel’s been delivering food in the rain and sun these past three years just to make ends meet. Imagine how furious she’d be if she knew most of the money she gave you went straight to Elara. I’d love to see her reaction.”

“Look at her now. Three years have aged her twenty. That ugly hag isn’t worth keeping around. Throw her some money and tell her to get lost.”

Elara frowned unhappily, pouting sharply. “Did you see what she did to his face? We can’t even file domestic violence charges that’ll stick. That bitch doesn’t deserve a single cent!”

Cian sat beside her, amused by her puffed-up, pouty expression.

He lowered his gaze and soothed her gently, “Don’t be upset. I’m fine, see? Don’t worry, everything I have is yours. No one can take anything away from you.”

I watched the video and figured out which private room they were in.

I heard his soft, comforting words the second I reached the door.

Everything he had was hers.

So this was what he’d decided all along.

That was pretty damn laughable.

I kicked the door open and stepped inside slowly.

I glanced at the familiar faces around the table, a faint, cold smile on my lips.

“Why didn’t you invite me to your little gathering? Were you too ashamed, or simply too afraid?”
