My Mafia Husband Steamed Me and My Child for His Ex-Lover Chapter 06

My Mafia Husband Steamed Me and My Child for His Ex-Lover Chapter 06

The Soul of Seraphina’s POV

I had loved him deeply since fifteen years ago.

The first time we met was in high school. I was poor, and to save enough money to survive, I studied hard and won a generous scholarship.

But I never expected to offend the school’s so-called academic goddess.

To get revenge, she teamed up with her friends and admirers to spread disgusting rumors, saying I had used my body to bribe the principal and dean for the scholarship.

They pasted my face onto obscene photos and spread them everywhere.

Everyone looked at me with contempt and disgust.

Some vile men even grabbed my shoulder straps and asked me how much I charged for a night.

I asked the school for help, but the school blamed me instead.

They said I must have done something wrong to make people hate me, and that was why I was being punished.

When I was at my most desperate, I climbed onto the roof of the school building, ready to jump.

It was Cassian, who had been taking a nap during lunch, who pulled me back down.

He took me to confront the girl face-to-face, and then confronted every person who had maliciously judged me.

Because of his family background, because the Blackwood family’s power stretched across the East Coast, no one dared go against him.

With his protection, I made it safely to graduation.

Back then, I asked him why he had helped me. He smiled and said, “Because your eyes told me you wouldn’t do something like that. You’re a good girl. I couldn’t stand watching you get bullied.”

Thinking of his gentle face in that moment, I cried until I lost my voice.

Back then, he had believed I was kind without asking for proof.

But now, he believed Rowena without asking for proof. He believed I was vicious.

It was only because Rowena mattered more than I did. The one who loves more is always hurt the deepest.

From that moment on, I loved him. Silently, I followed him to the same college.

At first, I only wanted to protect him from afar.

But in the fifth year after my graduation, his parents were killed in a car accident, and the family business collapsed overnight.

The once unstoppable Cassian fell to rock bottom.

Rowena canceled their engagement and married another rich heir within days.

I was terrified he might give up on life.

I sold every asset I owned, took out all my savings, left myself with only the cost of one ticket, and ran without hesitation to the city where he was. I joined his family.

I injected all my money into it. The company finally came back to life.

At a gala, he hugged me and thanked me for joining.

He said that without my help and the investment from that kind stranger, the company definitely wouldn’t have survived.

“I don’t know who anonymously wired me that money. If I knew who it was, I would repay her.”

At that moment, my heart pounded wildly.

I wanted so badly to tell him that person was me. I wanted to stay by his side. Could he please give me a chance?

But in the very next second, Rowena rushed in from outside, crying and throwing herself into his arms just like she did now.

The words I never said lost their chance forever.

The next day, they got back together. I silently retreated back into the position of a friend.

If not for what happened a year ago, perhaps I would have silently protected him for the rest of my life.

If that had been the case, my child and I would not have ended up like this.

I watched Cassian stand speechless, able only to swing his fist at Marcus in fury.

“I treated you so well, and you let her buy you off to lie to me too.”

“She told you to say all this so I would spare her, didn’t she? Tell her that’s impossible. I will never forgive her for hurting Rowena and lying to me.”

“Tell Sera I want to see her kneel and apologize to Rowena before midnight. After twelve, if she still doesn’t show up, we’re done for good.”

Marcus couldn’t fight back. He could only shout, “Boss, wake up! Everything I said is true! Madam is dead. You only have to look once, and you’ll know.”

“I don’t believe it,” Cassian muttered. He turned, grabbed Rowena, and walked away. “She has lied to me so many times. This must be another setup. I won’t believe her.”

I smiled silently and bitterly. In love, the one who is loved always acts without fear.

Just like I had with him.

No matter how he hurt me, I kept thinking I could give him one more chance.

Just like he was with Rowena.

Even though Rowena had abandoned him twice and told countless lies, he still believed her without verifying a thing.

Fortunately, I was already dead. I no longer had to wait for a man who would never love me to turn back.

Cassian left with Rowena.

As if trying to suppress the unease in his heart, he actually began talking to Rowena about ending things with me and marrying her.

“Sera really is too immature. Did she have to make it this ugly?”

“Looks like the lesson wasn’t enough. I have to cut things off with her completely this time before she learns fear.”

“Let’s go take wedding photos. Today.”

He took Rowena and booked out an entire bridal studio.

Every time she changed into a different wedding dress, he held her tight.

As if only that could drive everything that happened during the day out of his mind.

Rowena responded eagerly, her face full of surprise and greed. “You’re really willing to end things with Sera and marry me? That’s wonderful! I’m so happy!”

Cassian spoke as if trying to confirm something. “Rowena, back then, to help me get investment, you sacrificed yourself by marrying that man. You gave up one marriage for me. I can’t wrong you again.”

“After my parents died and my family collapsed, at the most critical moment, that funding wired into my account… you really exchanged your marriage for it, right?”

Rowena’s face stiffened. “Of course. Why else would I have suddenly married a man I’d never even met?”

Cassian let out a breath of relief, and his eyes grew even more affectionate. “Yes. In this world, only you would love me that much. Love me enough to give everything for me. Rowena, believe me. I will love you with my life.”

Hearing their conversation, I felt as if lightning had struck me.

So that was it.

So that was why Cassian had indulged and forgiven Rowena again and again. How absurd.

I thought I would feel pain. I thought I would feel rage.

But in the end, I only let out a sigh.

Could everything really be blamed only on Rowena for stealing my credit?

Had Cassian’s biased indulgence not played a part too?
