My Ex Thought I Still Loved Him, I Was Already Married Rich Chapter 14

I continued, “I agreed to see you today only because I wanted to ask you one question.”

“Consider it closure for that ridiculous first love of mine.”

Julian stared at me, his voice strained. “Ask me.”

I looked at him and finally asked the question that had been buried in my heart for years.

“Back then, did you protect Sophia only because her brother saved your life?”

“Julian, when you were with me, did you ever have feelings for her?”

Julian looked at me, violent emotions churning in his eyes.

After a long while, he spoke in a low voice.

“I never had feelings for Sophia.”

“Not once. I mean it.”

I watched him quietly and said nothing.

His throat moved as he swallowed, and he continued, “If I had really loved her, I wouldn’t have personally handed over the evidence after I learned the truth about what happened back then.”

“And after she died, I wouldn’t have been this calm.”

He lifted his eyes to me, and a trace of tenderness appeared on his face.

“The person I loved was always you.”

It was as if Julian had finally torn through all the restraint and coldness he had carried for years.

For the first time, he said the words he had never allowed himself to say.

“In college, you were like a little sun, circling around me every day.”

“You brought me breakfast, stayed up with me in the library, and could be happy for ages just because of one sentence from me.”

“You may not believe this, but back then, I was actually afraid of you.”

I paused slightly. “Afraid of me?”

He gave a bitter smile.

“When I was with you, I always felt out of control.”

“I almost never let my emotions get the better of me.”

“But you could make me angry, make me worry, and make me happy so easily.”

“I hated that feeling. I was afraid of seeing you.”

“But when you didn’t show up, I missed you.”

As if remembering the past, his eyes brightened for a moment.

“Nora, you have to believe me. I was sincere when I was with you.”

“I truly wanted to marry you too.”

“The time we spent preparing for the wedding was the happiest time of my life.”

By the time he said the last sentence, his voice was clearly trembling.

But after I heard all of it, my heart was strangely calm.

So the sweet words I had once desperately wanted to hear were nothing special when I finally heard them.

I nodded lightly.

“Okay. I know now. You can leave.”

Julian froze, as if he had not understood. “What?”

I looked up at him, my tone calm.

“I said I know now. You can leave.”

His face slowly turned pale.

“Is there nothing else you want to say to me?”

I was silent for a few seconds, then gave a faint smile.

“What else do you want to hear?”

“I only asked you that question today because our breakup was too rushed back then.”

“There were many things I never understood.”

“Now I know the answer.”

“That’s enough.”

Julian looked at me, and a trace of panic flashed across his face.

“Nora, have you never thought about being with me again?”

I froze for a second.

He had not destroyed my family with his own hands, but he had been an accomplice all along.

Since he had finally come to his senses at the last moment and exposed Sophia, I was willing to let him go without holding him accountable any further.

And he still wanted to get back together with me?

In his dreams.

I stood up and scoffed. “Julian, what kind of joke is that? I’m married.”

“And I love my husband. I don’t love you.”

When he heard that, Julian looked unexpectedly calm.

He looked at me and said softly, “Nora, stop pretending.”

I frowned at him. “Pretending what?”

“I know.” He adjusted his posture, looking far too relaxed. “You and Adrian are in a contract marriage.”

How did Julian know Adrian and I had signed a contract?

While I was still stunned, rapid footsteps came from upstairs.

In the blink of an eye, Adrian had rushed up to Julian, furious.

“Who told you my wife and I are in a contract marriage?”

Julian slowly stood, looking as if he had all the proof he needed.

“Mr. Blackwood, the contract you signed back then was drafted by another attorney I know.”

“You asked her to become Mrs. Blackwood and help you appease your family.”

“After five years, you would let her leave and give her a sum of money.”

“Am I wrong?”
