Adrian kissed Nora’s forehead.

When his gaze fell on her swollen cheek and the burn on her arm, his eyes darkened again.

“I’ve already had someone contact the best doctor. It won’t leave a scar.”

“After we take care of your wound, I’ll make you your favorite minestrone.”

Nora buried her face in Adrian’s arms.

All her trust and dependence were there, unspoken.

Julian stood frozen where he was.

His mind roared.

Her husband.

Nora had really called another man her husband.

And that man was Adrian.

At that moment, Julian finally realized that everything Nora had said before was true.

She had not lied.

She had not put on an act.

She had not deliberately tried to harass him.

She really was married.

She had even married better than anyone could have imagined.

Julian suddenly remembered what Nora had said to him at the law firm that day.

“My husband wants to transfer every asset under his name to me.”

And how had he answered her then?

“Do you even believe something that ridiculous yourself?”

His chest suddenly felt as if a stone had been shoved inside it, heavy and painful.

So the truly ridiculous one had been him.

The black Maybach slowly drove out of the underground parking garage and disappeared from view.

Julian still stood where he was.

In his mind, Nora’s last look kept replaying over and over.

Her gaze had been cold and disgusted, as if she were looking at something sickening.

And yet once upon a time, she had loved him so much.

She had loved him so much that even when everyone laughed at her, she had still chased after him without hesitation.

But now, she would not even turn her head for him.

Julian closed his eyes, and for the first time, an indescribable panic rose inside him.

Still, he was an extremely rational man. He quickly collected himself and returned to the private hospital suite.

He had not expected the room to be in complete chaos.

Several police officers were standing inside.

Sophia was curled up on the hospital bed, sobbing and trembling all over.

The moment she saw him, she rushed toward him as if he were her last lifeline.

“Julian! Make them leave! They’re trying to arrest me!”

She cried like a helpless victim.

But the police officer simply showed his badge.

“Ms. Carlisle, please cooperate with our investigation.”

Julian’s face darkened. “What investigation?”

The lead officer opened a file.

“A named complainant has reported that Ms. Carlisle was involved in an unlawful imprisonment case from five years ago.”

“According to the information provided by the complainant, Ms. Hale was kidnapped five years ago and photographed nude without consent.”

“We have already obtained some evidence, so Ms. Carlisle needs to come with us for questioning.”

Julian’s mind went blank in an instant.
