My Ex Thought I Still Loved Him, I Was Already Married Rich Chapter 07

I rushed all the way back to the emergency room.

But the medical staff had already taken off their masks.

They looked at me with grave, conflicted expressions.

“I’m sorry. We did everything we could.”

I froze where I stood.

Suddenly, I could not hear anything.

It was as if the entire world had been put on mute.

Slowly, I lifted my head.

I saw the old woman lying quietly on the hospital bed, covered with a white sheet.

In that moment, I suddenly realized that I had no blood relatives left in this world.

For an instant, I felt as if I had been thrown back to the afternoon I lost my mother.

The sky had seemed to collapse, and even breathing had become difficult.

I sat alone in the hospital hallway for a long time without moving.

The people I loved most had left me one by one.

And the people who had killed them were still alive.

Not only alive, but polished, powerful, and standing above everyone else.

Why?

Why?

I cried until my chest felt torn open, my teeth clenched with hatred.

I could not take it anymore. I rushed straight toward the private hospital suite.

I had to make them give me an answer.

But before I reached the door, I heard the voice of Sophia’s father, Victor Carlisle, from inside.

“Julian, you’ve worked so hard all these years.”

“If you hadn’t stayed by Sophie’s side, we wouldn’t have known what to do.”

Julian’s low voice slowly came from inside.

“Nathan died saving me back then.”

“Sophie developed bipolar disorder after her brother’s death, and her emotions have always been unstable.”

“Taking care of her for the rest of my life is the least I can do.”

Outside the door, I froze slightly.

So that was it.

No wonder he had protected Sophia all these years, no matter what she did.

But why did repaying his debt have to come at the cost of my family’s lives?

I clenched my fists and was just about to kick the door open when I heard Mr. Carlisle Sr. sigh.

“What are you planning to do about Nora?”

“After all, her parents’ deaths are both connected to Sophie.”

“Now that she’s back in New York, I’m afraid she won’t let this go.”

“What worries me most is that she’ll upset Sophie again.”

The room went silent for a few seconds.

Then Julian spoke calmly.

“What does any of that have to do with Sophie?”

“Her mother’s death was an accident to begin with.”

“Her father was already terminally ill. Even if Sophie hadn’t upset him during that meeting, he would have died anyway.”

“Besides, so many years have passed. Even if she really wants to sue, we’re not afraid.”

My mind went blank.

My father had been angered to death by Sophia?

Why had no one told me?

Why?

In an instant, my whole body began to tremble, and my ears buzzed.

So all these years, the hatred and pain I had carried were only the tip of the iceberg.

And the people in that room spoke of my parents’ deaths so casually, as if they were discussing something utterly trivial.

A violent hatred slammed into my chest, and I completely lost control.

With a bang, I kicked the hospital room door open.
