Revenge Is the Best Wedding Gift Chapter 13

He suppressed his inner excitement, trying to make his voice sound gentle and reliable:

“Darling, I’m your husband. Last week we just got our marriage certificate at city hall, and we’re having our grand wedding at the end of this month.”

He paused, fabricating a perfect lie:

“A few nights ago, you insisted on going to the roof to look at stars, but you accidentally fell down. You just had surgery and need to rest. Once you’ve fully recovered, we’ll have our wedding as planned.”

At an angle Rafe couldn’t see, the corner of my mouth curved in a cold, mocking smile.

That cold smile vanished instantly as I put on an innocent, confused expression:

“You say we’re married just like that? Words are cheap—show me the marriage documents.”

Rafe immediately panicked, looking helpless.

He had no idea where the marriage certificates had been thrown.

On the day we registered at city hall, I had clutched those two marriage certificates tightly to my chest like they were priceless treasures.

But later, like a madman, he’d thrown me out of the car, and those two fresh marriage certificates were thrown into the storm with me.

Seeing he couldn’t produce them, I immediately threw a tantrum, threatening to press the call button for hospital security to throw out this “complete fraud.”

Helplessly, Rafe could only gently appease:

“Baby, how could I lie to you? The marriage certificates are locked at home. Rest well—I’ll go get them right now to show you.”

With that, Rafe rushed out of the hospital room and drove home like a madman.
