Blood And Promises Novel by Sabrina Hart Chapter 07

Samantha paused in her steps, looking at her with a blank expression.

Rebecca shook her head, her tone full of pity, but her eyes brimming with malice. “No wonder you’re in so much pain. After all, everyone knows how much Richie used to love me. Back in military school, if I casually mentioned wanting pastries from the east side of the city, he would scour half the city to get them for me. When I was sick, he stayed by my bedside for three days and nights without closing his eyes… His love for me was etched into his very bones. As for you? You’re nothing but a useful tool. Do you really think that by making a scene and acting out, you can attract his attention? Stop dreaming.”

Samantha listened quietly.

Strangely, she thought she would feel heartache or anger, but at this moment her heart was utterly calm, even a little amused.

So, it turned out that when you no longer loved someone, hearing such things truly left you unmoved.

“Are you done?” Samantha tugged at the corner of her mouth. “If you’re done, then get lost. A good dog doesn’t block the way.”

Rebecca’s expression changed; she had not expected this kind of reaction from Samantha.

Her gaze turned cold, and suddenly she pulled a handkerchief from her bag, swiftly pressing it over Samantha’s mouth and nose!

The handkerchief had a pungent smell. Caught off guard, Samantha inhaled a breath, and immediately felt dizzy and weak in her limbs.

“You…” Her vision went black, and she collapsed softly to the ground.

Rebecca caught her and waved to someone in the distance. A car drove over.

Two men got out of the car and helped Rebecca lift the unconscious Samantha into the vehicle.

When Samantha regained consciousness, it was the terrifying heat and thick smoke that woke her.

She coughed and opened her eyes, finding herself lying in a cold, dark place.

Directly in front of her was a gaping furnace mouth, inside which orange flames were roaring fiercely!

And Rebecca, tied up with rope and gagged, was thrown not far from the furnace.

This was… a crematorium?!

A cold sweat broke out all over Samantha in an instant. She struggled to get up, and just then, hurried footsteps and a sharp shout came from outside: “Stop!”

Richard burst in with several people, like a gust of wind!

When he saw Rebecca tied up by the furnace, his face changed dramatically. He rushed over and quickly untied her ropes, holding her tightly in his arms.

“Becca! Becca, are you alright? Are you hurt? Don’t be afraid, I’m here!”

As soon as Rebecca was freed, she threw herself into Richard’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably: “Richie… I was so scared… Samantha… Samantha wanted to burn me alive… She knocked me out and brought me here… If you hadn’t arrived in time… I would have been pushed in…”

Hearing this, Richard suddenly turned to look at Samantha, who was standing to the side.

His gaze was cold, sharp, filled with shock, anger, and… a chill Samantha had never seen before.

“Samantha!” Richard’s voice was frighteningly deep, laced with suppressed fury. “This is a human life! Do you know what you’re doing?!”

Samantha looked at the scene before her, at Rebecca’s shameless performance, at Richard’s unwavering trust and protection, and felt a chill surge from the soles of her feet to the top of her head.

She looked at Richard and suddenly laughed, her smile pale and desolate. “Richard, if I say I didn’t do any of this, that it was all Rebecca’s own act, would you believe me?”

Richard looked into her smiling eyes, and deep within them was a barren wasteland of utter deadness.

His heart tightened inexplicably, but Rebecca’s trembling sobs in his arms quickly brought him back to his senses.

“Where’s the evidence?” Richard asked coldly. “Sammy, tell me, why would Becca risk her own life?”

Samantha felt a pang in her heart and was about to say something, but in the next second, Richard had already given his order.

“Someone! Take Samantha back! Keep her under strict watch!”

“Wait!” Rebecca suddenly lifted her head from Richard’s arms, tears still on her face, but she spoke gently, “Richie, although according to military regulations and the law, Ms. Serrano should be severely punished for such behavior… but, after all, I am the victim. Don’t put her in confinement. Let me have her for a day, let me try to talk to her. I believe she just lost her head for a moment…”

Richard frowned deeply. “Becca, you…”

Rebecca’s eyes reddened again. “Richie, don’t you trust me? I can’t even hurt a chicken, what could I possibly do to Ms. Serrano? Besides…”

She suddenly leaned close to Richard’s ear and, in a very low, tearful voice, said, “Are you… are you afraid I might hurt her? Is it because… you’ve fallen for her?”

Richard’s whole body jolted, as if this question had pierced some hidden secret in his heart.

He almost instinctively denied it. “No! How could that be!”

Rebecca caught that fleeting panic in his eyes, a glint of malice flashing in her own, but she quickly returned to her weak demeanor. “Then let me have her for a day, Richie. You know me, I won’t do anything to her.”

In the end, Richard nodded and instructed the guards, “Hand Samantha over to Ms. Macias.”

“Yes, sir!”

At that moment, Samantha’s heart sank completely into a bottomless abyss.

Richard turned to leave.

“Richard!” Samantha suddenly called out to him.

Richard paused, but did not turn around.

Samantha looked at his tall yet indifferent back, and with the last of her strength, asked word by word, “If I say I really didn’t do it, could you… believe me just this once?”

Richard’s back stiffened for a moment. After a few seconds of silence, his low, weary, and unyielding voice came:

“Sammy, if you did something wrong, you have to admit it. We’ll talk after I finish my military duties.”

With that, he did not linger any longer and strode away.
