My Husband Framed Me For His Mother’s Murder Chapter 04

My Husband Framed Me For His Mother’s Murder Chapter 04

So why did Patricia still fall from the building?

While I was still stunned, a sharp voice suddenly rang out.

“Emily Carter! That’s her!”

That sentence exploded like a bomb, shattering the murmurs.

Everyone turned to look at me.

Before I could explain, the crowd surged forward like a tide and surrounded me.

“You monster! You killed your mother-in-law on her own birthday!”

“How cold-blooded! She was old and had Alzheimer’s. How could you do that?”

“I heard you thought she was a burden for a long time. You’re pure evil.”

“Someone stop her! Don’t let her get away!”

Insults and accusations flew at me from all sides; some people even started shoving me.

Then Michael looked up.

His eyes were bloodshot as he stared at me.

He lunged forward and grabbed my arm, squeezing so hard I thought he would break my bones.

“I knew you hated my mom. I knew you thought she was a burden. But today was her birthday.”

“She treated you like her own daughter. How could you be so cruel?”

“I was gone for only a little while, and you pushed her from that high up. Don’t you have any shame?”

I struggled to break free and shouted at the crowd, “I didn’t push her. I wasn’t even home. Michael is lying.”

“Lying?”

Michael laughed as if I had told the funniest joke.

“How dare you deny it. The neighbors heard you. Around 7:00 p.m., you came home, yelled at her, and hit her. People downstairs saw it too.”

A few neighbors nodded in agreement.

I stood there trembling. If I hadn’t been home, why were people so sure they had seen me?

Just then, a few police officers pushed through the crowd.

“Who called 911?”

Michael immediately rushed over and grabbed an officer’s arm. “Officer, this woman killed my mother. Arrest her. Make her pay.”

The officer calmed Michael down, confirmed that my mother-in-law was indeed dead, and then walked toward me.

I fought back my tears and tried to stay calm. “Officer, I didn’t kill anyone. I wasn’t home. I…”

But before I could finish, our neighbor Linda Morrison cut me off.

She planted her hands on her hips and said firmly, “Officer, don’t listen to her. I live across the hall. I heard her yelling and hitting the poor old lady.”

“I heard things like ‘you old burden’ and worse. The poor old lady was begging and crying.”

Another neighbor stepped forward and nodded vigorously. “I can testify too. I was doing my workout downstairs. The music had just stopped when I heard a loud crash.”

“I looked up and clearly saw a figure at the window. It was her.”

“She was wearing a cream-colored trench coat. I recognized that coat. It’s the one she always wears. I’m absolutely sure.”

Seeing that others were backing him up, Michael grew even more agitated. “You heard them, Officer. She’s lying. Arrest her.”

The people around chimed in, shouting for my arrest. The voices grew louder and louder.

The officer pulled out a pair of handcuffs and said seriously, “Ma’am, please come with us for questioning.”

Just as the cold metal was about to touch my wrist, I suddenly pulled my hand back. I let out a cold laugh and quickly pulled something from my pocket, holding it high above my head.

“You say I was home and pushed my mother-in-law around 7:00 p.m.? Fine. Then what do you call this?”

Everyone froze. The officer took the item and examined it as Michael hurried over to look too.

The next second, his expression stiffened as he stared at me in disbelief.
