He Faked Cancer While I Lost Thirty Babies For Him Chapter 07

He Faked Cancer While I Lost Thirty Babies For Him Chapter 07

In the hospital, Lena slowly opened her eyes.

Her second wish had been to trade her own life for her parents’ lives.

“Lena, you’re finally awake. It’s Mom!”

“Mom… who am I? Where am I?”

“Ding! Bonus reward granted: Host has returned to the real world with her memories erased, and the whole family survives and is reunited.”

Just as the scalpel was about to pierce his throat, Sebastian’s trembling hand lowered it again.

His voice was choked, and his eyes were bloodshot.

“Lena, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry… but I can’t die.”

“This country has entrusted me with a research mission that will take my entire life.”

“I have to serve this country for the rest of my life.”

“I’m sorry, Lena. In this lifetime, I can’t atone for what I did to you. I’m sorry.”

Sebastian slapped himself hard across the face several times, put down the scalpel, then turned and ran back to the office like a madman.

For the next year, he worked desperately in his office.

“Where is Team A on the project?”

“Team B’s proposal must be ready by tomorrow.”

“Planning Department, we have a meeting today.”

“Mr. Langford, please take a look. This is the Baybridge project proposal.”

“The logic in phase two is completely broken. Redo it.”

“This proposal can pass. Report on it in the conference room at ten tomorrow morning.”

“Mr. Langford, you haven’t rested in a long time. Please get some sleep.”

An assistant could no longer stand watching him like this and tried to persuade him.

But when Sebastian heard that, he only gripped the pen in his hand until his knuckles turned white.

How could he dare rest?

As long as he closed his eyes for even a moment, Lena’s smiling face would instantly appear in his mind.

They had depended on each other and given each other their hearts for ten years.

Back then, she had suffered with him and struggled beside him.

She had stayed with him through every day when they had nothing.

Yet he had betrayed her with his own hands.

He had pushed her away, destroyed every hope she had, and forced her into a desperate corner with no way out.

Scene after scene tore through his nerves.

No one saw that Mr. Langford, the man who stood so high above everyone else in public, often sat alone in a corner late at night.

His shoulders would shake violently.

He would cry without making a sound.

His heart was full of guilt and regret, but there was nowhere left for any of it to go.

And deep down, he knew very clearly that he did not deserve regret. He did not deserve grief. He did not deserve to miss her.

A cold-blooded, heartless man who had betrayed a true heart like hers deserved to die.

He thought that when this lifetime finally ended and he saw Lena in the afterlife, he would beg her forgiveness properly.

Three months passed in the blink of an eye.

Sebastian completed his first major project and won an award for it.

“Congratulations, Mr. Langford.”

“Mr. Langford is truly young and accomplished, doing real service for the country.”

Suddenly, someone looked at the suit Sebastian was wearing and paused.

“Huh. Why does Mr. Langford’s suit look so familiar?”

“It looks like a style from years ago.”

“Oh, you don’t know? That was the first suit Mr. Langford’s late wife ever bought for him.”

“Mr. Langford really is devoted, isn’t he?”

“You don’t know the half of it. That wife of his was messy as hell.”

“I heard that when she was alive, she had something going on with a sixty-year-old jeweler.”

“Exactly. I heard that too. Someone saw her go into a private club with that sixty-year-old man. The wildest part is that the very next day, she even went to a construction site. I heard that at the site, she…”

“Hahaha, that’s insane.”

Sebastian clenched his fists hard. “Shut the fuck up!”

But before he could make a move, a vicious slap landed first across the gossipmonger’s face.

“Mr. King! What are you doing here?”

“Jace, take it from here.”

Silas sat down in the front row of the banquet hall and crossed one leg over the other.

The man he called Jace was Jace Wilder, the same man who had come to the Langford estate that day and told Sebastian there was an important guest waiting to see him.

Jace smiled faintly. In the next second, he said softly, “Lock this place down.”

Three days later, in jail, Sebastian was behind bars.

At the banquet that day, Silas had ordered his men to seal off the hall and then called the police.

The foolish things Sebastian had done to Lena made him criminally liable in her death. There was no way he could avoid jail.

Although Silas was known in Snowridge, Alaska as a crime boss, it was mostly just a title. In reality, he did not have much in the way of criminal enterprises.

“Sebastian, if I were you, I would have followed your first wife into death a long time ago.”

“You keep saying you couldn’t die because you had to serve the country, but the truth is, you’re weak, hypocritical, faithless, and cold-blooded.”

Sebastian shook his head hard, his eyes wide as he gripped the prison bars.

“No. No, that’s not true! That’s fucking bullshit!”

Silas ignored him and continued.

“Chloe manipulated plenty of your company accounts and did a lot of filthy things through them.”

“Sebastian, you can wait as the charges and sentences come down one by one.”

After saying that, Silas turned and left without looking at him again.

The next day, court convened.

As the marshals escorted Sebastian toward the courtroom, every former employee and subordinate he once had showed up.

Their eyes held nothing but disgust and contempt.

“Scumbag!”

“Animal!”

“You don’t even deserve to be called human!”

Rotten eggs flew at him. Spoiled produce flew at him.

Sebastian instinctively shook his head. “No. I didn’t!”

Then suddenly, his head snapped up, and he broke down.

He had. He had done all of it.

He had wronged Lena.

He deserved to die. He was the scum they said he was.

Just then, he suddenly rushed into the street. A car sped past, and with a loud crash, it sent Sebastian flying.

His entire body was thrown to the other side of the road, and in the end, a steel rod pierced through his throat.

For miles, wind and snow stretched on, and longing made no sound.

After Silas finished handling everything, he returned to Snowridge, Alaska.

He held a cigarette between his fingers and slowly lit it.

Smoke blurred his features.

He lifted his gaze toward the endless snow outside the window.

“When I was young, I also had a first wife who loved me with her whole heart.”

“I lost my senses for a while because of another woman beside me, and I caused her to die with hatred in her heart.”

“Her name had Lena in it, too.”

Snow fell endlessly, and dusk sank deep.

Time turned back to that day outside the courthouse, when the sky suddenly opened into pouring rain.

The whole world was covered in gloom.

The national research mission was handed over to Lucas Reed.

Sebastian slowly closed his eyes in a pool of blood.

But one thought remained in his mind.

The dusk rain falls without end, and still I long to see my Lena again!

Lena, in the next life, please meet me again. Please.

But the dusk rain will not stop, and you have no right to face Lena again.

Those who betray a true heart do not deserve another life.

“Mr. King, these are Sebastian’s ashes.”

“Dissolve them in sulfuric acid and throw them somewhere no one will ever find.”
