He Faked Cancer While I Lost Thirty Babies For Him Chapter 01

In the third year after Sebastian Langford went bankrupt and was diagnosed with stomach cancer, he could only sit in a wheelchair beside me for our belated wedding portrait shoot.

But the moment the shutter clicked, he suddenly looked at me with an almost careless calm.

“Two days ago at noon, you took paid funeral-home jobs hauling caskets to cover my medical bills.”

“Last night, you stripped down and begged Mr. Fuller Sr. to get me treatment.”

“And just now, you slept with a sixty-year-old jeweler in exchange for state-of-the-art medical equipment, buying me another two months to live.”

“Am I right, Lena Grant?”

I froze. My brows relaxed, then drew together again, and for a long while, I could not say a word.

“While you were sleeping with that old man, Chloe and I were having sex in the next room.”

I followed his indifferent gaze and suddenly realized the photographer was Chloe Winters, his childhood sweetheart.

Sebastian adjusted the watch on his wrist, rose from the wheelchair, and wrapped an arm around Chloe. His voice was still perfectly calm.

“The game of pretending to be broke and sick is over.”

“Lena, as long as you behave, I don’t mind letting you stay on as my mistress from now on.”

“After all, you’ve been with me for so many years. Don’t make things harder on yourself.”

Ten years.

This was the fiftieth time Sebastian had lied to me because of Chloe.

I had thought that this time, it would be real.

A pain like a knife twisting through my chest surged up inside me.

A System alert exploded in my mind.

“Host’s Betrayal Score has reached ten million. Save-Mother Mission complete. Reward will be redeemed automatically.”

“Three million dollars in cash and one wish of your choosing.”

My gaze stayed on the word wish for a long time.

Sebastian was right.

I really should not make things harder on myself.

At the sight of my face, the other people in the photo studio suddenly burst out laughing.

“Lena must be completely stunned. She fell for it again!”

“She deserves it. If she hadn’t schemed back then, Mr. Langford would have been with Miss Winters a long time ago.”

“Lena has lost thirty pregnancies by now. She works herself to the bone for money and is all skin and bones. Mr. Langford was kind enough to take her in and give her a roof over her head. Otherwise, who would ever marry her?”

“She should be on her knees thanking Mr. Langford and Miss Winters.”

“If Chloe hadn’t gone abroad back then, Lena never would have gotten the chance to stay by Sebastian’s side for ten years.”

“Lena set Chloe up. Forget losing thirty babies. Even if she lost a hundred, she’d deserve every one of them.”

With hands covered in blood blisters, I clenched the skirt of the ten-dollar wedding dress I had dug out of a thrift store.

So this was what ten years of giving everything without regret had earned me.

If someone had not saved me, I really would have been forced under that sixty-year-old jeweler.

I had escaped with my life, then worked three jobs every day to make money for Sebastian.

I could not even bring myself to buy a cheap cup of oatmeal.

Yet now he was telling me he had lied to me again because of Chloe.

All because back then, I had no choice but to send Chloe to Snowridge, Alaska.

I parted my lips, but for a long time, no words came out.

Sebastian looked at me, his tone leaving no room for argument. “Tomorrow, go back to the construction site and keep paying for what you did to Chloe.”

“Tonight.”

He paused, then suddenly signaled for the bodyguards to grab me.

“Take her to the private club and have her drink with Mr. Walsh. She must help Chloe secure that design contract the day after tomorrow.”

My head snapped up, my eyes full of disbelief.

The Mr. Walsh Sebastian was talking about was Victor Walsh, the most lecherous and brutal design contractor in Harbor City.

I had only just escaped one monster’s claws, and now Sebastian was pushing me into another abyss.

I frowned. “Why should I go?”

Sebastian tightened his grip around my wrist and gave a cold snort. “You don’t get to bargain with me. Take her away.”

The moment he finished speaking, I was thrown to the floor. Several bodyguards dragged me roughly out of the studio, forced me into a luxury car, and drove me to the private club.

Half an hour later, the private room door slammed shut.

Mr. Walsh lifted a glass and forced the liquor into my mouth.

His callused hands roamed up and down my waist.

Fighting back nausea, I shoved him away and tried to escape the room, but in the next second, my vision suddenly went black.

As my consciousness blurred, I saw Victor swirling his glass with a soft laugh. “Sebastian’s drug is impressive. It works fast.”

The last thing I saw was him undoing his jacket and lunging toward me with a disgusting grin.

Holding back my tears, I called out to the System. “I’ve decided what I want my wish to be!”
