On Our Wedding Day, He Married Someone Else Chapter 03

The first ray of morning sun spilled into the ward.

I opened my eyes to find Silas standing by my bed, holding a dress.

I laughed bitterly, full of scorn.

“Silas, I’ll never marry a man who’s already married.”

Silas glanced at me calmly.

“This isn’t a wedding dress, Corinne. It’s a bridesmaid dress.”

“You faked suicide at Marnie’s wedding and ruined her big day. She’s kind enough not to blame you. She just wants a redo, with you as her bridesmaid.”

I gaped at Silas, burning with shame and outrage.

“No way!”

I ripped the cheap dress off and stomped on it.

Silas watched me quietly.

“Dr. Hale, bring two more sedatives.”

Only when I was exhausted did Silas sit next to me and fix my messy hair.

“Marnie’s been with me for years without a formal title, facing plenty of judgment. She’s been judged for it. I need you to clear her name at the wedding.”

“I need you to tell everyone she’s not a homewrecker.”

I slapped his hand away sharply.

“Dream on! She’s just like her mom—a homewrecker who ruined families, and she always will be.”

The last traces of warmth in Silas’s eyes died out.

A cold, scornful smile played on his lips.

“Homewrecker? Marnie and I are married. We have a license.”

I bit my tongue hard, and a sharp, bitter taste filled my mouth.

It was true.

Marnie had a wedding, a marriage license, and a baby on the way.

I had nothing.

I was the ridiculous other woman.

I sank onto the bed as the doctor gave me a sedative.Silas covered my eyes like he was soothing a child, shielding me from the sight of the needle.

Meeting my lifeless eyes, he hesitated, then pressed a gentle kiss to the top of my head.

His voice soft with guilt.

“I still love you, Corinne.”

“I promise you’ll have everything Marnie has. A wedding, a diamond ring, a baby. I’ll give you all of it.”

“But I have to give it to her first.”

Dosed with several sedatives, my pain slowly faded into numbness.

I nodded at Silas.

My mind told me to agree just to stop the pain.

The shots hurt too much.

Silas smiled at me for the first time in so long.

He ordered jasmine flowers, my old favorite, and filled the whole room with them himself.

Later, he took me to eat spicy broth noodles at the shop we loved back in school.

Before leaving, he reminded me to behave well at the wedding.

The ward went quiet again.

I sat on the bed, and 18-year-old Silas called again.

Hearing his voice, all my built-up hurt broke loose.

“He’s making me attend his wedding with Marnie.”

“Silas, why did you grow to hate me so much?”

“If I disappeared from the wedding, would he finally leave me alone?”

“Corinne!”

The young boy’s voice cracked with urgent sobs. Bowed low in utter humility, he begged over and over.

“Wait for me, please. I found a way to your time.”

“Give me a little more time. I’ll come to you.”

“Okay.”

I replied in a choked voice.

“Hurry.”
