On Our Wedding Day, He Married Someone Else Chapter 01

The day my father married his mistress, and Silas Hale married her daughter.

I carried my mother’s urn and wandered alone to the edge of Pinehurst Lake.

The water climbed past my neck when my phone suddenly rang.

It was 18-year-old Silas.

“Corinne, aren’t you the happiest bride today?”

Today was supposed to be our wedding day, the one we promised each other when we were young.

I clenched the phone and laughed through my tears.

“Yeah. The wedding’s perfect. The pink diamond ring you promised me, the wedding gown you designed yourself—everything came true.”

“Only the bride is Marnie Rose.”

I held my mother’s urn and sank deeper until my mind went blank.

When I woke up, I was in Cedar Creek General Hospital.

Silas still wore his suit, his eyes filled with impatience.

“Stop being so dramatic. You can’t keep hurting yourself just to ruin Marnie’s wedding.”

“If you want a wedding that badly, I’ll give you one after Marnie has her baby.”

After Silas left, the room fell silent again.

Trembling, I reached for something sharp beside the bed.

Then the call from the past came through once more.

18-year-old Silas breathed heavily, his voice sharp with youthful rage.

“Corinne, am I really the one marrying you?”

“You are.”

Even the 18-year-old him couldn’t understand why he’d stopped loving me.

How was I supposed to let go?

I scoffed and was about to hang up when the door burst open.

Silas snatched the knife in a split second.

He gripped my wrist and checked me over carefully.

When he found no cuts, he let out a relieved breath.

“I’m so sorry, Corinne. I just found out you were expecting.”

“Too bad… you lost the baby.”

“Promise me you’ll stop pushing yourself this hard. We can have another child someday.”

I stared blankly at my lower belly.

My eyes stung sharply, but I couldn’t cry.

My baby was gone, but Marnie’s child was safe and healthy.

My baby was never wanted for a single moment. Marnie’s was loved and spoiled by Silas.

Why?

Silas searched every corner of the ward.

Paring knives, scissors, glass cups—anything sharp was taken away.

He stuck furniture edge protectors on every table and cabinet corner.

When he finished, he brushed the back of my hand gently, his voice soft but exhausted.

“Corinne, stop this. You’ve always wanted to marry me, right? Easy, baby. After I stay with Marnie through the birth, I’ll give you a wedding just as nice as hers.”

I rolled over and turned my back to him.

A wedding?

I didn’t want it anymore.

Not since Silas brought pregnant Marnie to my mother and put her in a vegetative state.

Not since my mother died, and I planned her funeral alone while Silas and my father planned a wedding for the mistress and her daughter.

Not since I lost my baby in that freezing water.

My twelve years with Silas Hale were over.

“Get out.”

Two cold words, not a hint of warmth in my tone.

His humble compromise got no desired response, and Silas’s last bit of patience snapped.

He slammed his fist against the wall in despair, like a lion pushed to his limit.

“Corinne Shaw, I’m talking to you. Look at me!”

His knuckles began to bleed slowly.

Marnie gasped and rushed in to hold Silas tightly.

Her wedding gown was still on.

She then casually tore off a soft piece of the lining and wrapped his wound.

I stared blankly at Marnie’s gown.

It was the one I designed with Silas when I was 16.

He kissed my forehead and promised I would wear it ten years later.

Now it was real, and it was more beautiful than I imagined.

All those years, Silas flew to different countries and bought the most expensive diamonds, no matter the cost.

He said he would decorate my gown with all of them.

He really made the most beautiful gown in the world.

But someone else was wearing it.

Marnie lifted her chin proudly, meeting my jealous gaze.

“Corinne, you’re being mean to Silas again while I’m gone.”

“Crazy really does run in the family. Your mom tortured Dad for half his life, and now you want to drain Silas dry too?”

“Let him go.”

The 10-carat pink diamond on her ring finger blazed so bright it hurt my eyes.

I pulled the IV drip bag out of my hand and hurled it at her, eyes red with rage.

“You don’t get to talk about my mom!”

Silas turned sideways and shielded her in his arms.

The IV bag exploded against his back.

Saline splashed into my eyes, stinging sharply.

“Marnie, I told you not to come. I was afraid she’d say something reckless when she got emotional.”

Silas gently lifted Marnie’s gown, escorting her like a princess away from this forbidden place.

This gloomy cage has trapped no one but me all along.

Trembling, I pulled out sleeping pills I’d hidden in my pillow.

On the phone, that long-familiar voice echoed again.

The young boy choked up utterly.

“If that’s really me in the future, I’d rather disappear than watch you get hurt.”

“Corinne, if I die, will that monster disappear?”
