He Kissed His First Love in Front of My BLIND Eyes-Until I Watched Him Burn Chapter 04

I didn’t die.

One second before the chandelier fell, someone tackled me out of the way.

Landon.

He used his own body to shield me from most of the impact.

My back jolted, and everything went black.

When I woke up, I was in a hospital.

Disinfectant smell. White everywhere.

Landon lay in the bed next to mine, head wrapped in thick gauze, still unconscious.

A nurse was changing my IV. When she saw my eyes open, she beamed. “Thank God you’re awake!”

blinked-trying to look like I was adjusting to light. “Where am I?”

“The hospital. You and Landon were both brought in.” Her voice was soft. “How do you feel? Any pain?”

I shook my head, lost.

“Where’s Cameron?” I asked-the question I was supposed to ask.

The nurse’s expression flickered. “Mr. Hawthorne… he’s also at the hospital, but…”

The door slammed open before she could finish.

Cameron stormed in.

He looked wrecked. His expensive suit was filthy and wrinkled. Hair a mess. Eyes bloodshot.

He stared at me like he wanted to burn holes through my skin.

“You’re awake?” His voice was gravel.

I “looked” at him and nodded. Then, like I’d just remembered, I asked urgently, “Cameron, where’s Sierra?

Is she okay?”

The second I said Sierra’s name, Cameron’s face went dark.

He didn’t answer. Instead, he crossed over and grabbed my shoulders.

“Why didn’t you run during the fire?” he demanded. “Did you know something?”

His grip hurt. I winced, face full of confusion and hurt. “Cameron, what are you talking about? I don’t… I

don’t know anything. I’m blind. Where could I run?”

My words doused some of his anger.

Right. I’m blind.

In that chaos, not getting trampled was a miracle.

He let go, exhaustion and frustration washing over his face.

His phone rang.

He walked to the window and answered in a low voice but I heard everything.

“Found her yet?… Still nothing?… Keep looking! Dead or alive!”

He hung up and punched the wall. Blood smeared across his knuckles.

He was looking for Sierra.

After the fire, Sierra had vanished.

Security footage showed her running out first, jumping into a black sedan with no plates, and disappearing into the night.

Cameron turned Crestwood upside down. Nothing. Not a hair.

I lay in my hospital bed, watching him spiral, and felt pure satisfaction.

Of course he couldn’t find Sierra.

Because I’d already sent her somewhere else.

Somewhere she’d picked out herself-that training camp for “disobedient pets.”

I think she’ll love it there.

Cameron didn’t stay long.

He had to keep searching for his precious girl.

After he left, I pulled out my IV, got out of bed, and walked to Landon’s bedside.

The doctor said he’d been hit in the back of the head by falling debris protecting me. Mild concussion,

but no danger.

I looked at his pale sleeping face. My feelings were complicated.

In that cold, heartless Hawthorne family, Landon was the only one who’d ever shown me warmth.

I leaned down and whispered in his ear, “Thanks, Landon. Rest up. When you wake up, everything’s

gonna be over.”

Then I walked out of the room.
