He Kissed His First Love in Front of My BLIND Eyes-Until I Watched Him Burn Chapter 02

The next day, Sierra couldn’t wait to come rub it in.

She showed up in a brand-new Chanel suit, wearing my mother’s pearl necklace around her neck.

Cameron had given it to me for my eighteenth birthday, then took it back because “a blind girl doesn’t deserve something so expensive.”

Now it hung on Sierra’s pale throat, gleaming.

“Sloane, do I look pretty today?” She giggled and twirled right in front of me.

I “looked” toward her voice, keeping my face blank and lost like always.

“Sierra, you’re here,” I said softly, voice weak from never seeing the sun.

She seemed thrilled with my reaction. She came closer and grabbed my hand like we were friends.

Her nails were long and sharp, digging into my skin.

“Sloane, Cameron says you’re so bored up here alone, so he sent me to keep you company.”

She pulled out a tablet and played a video.

In the video, my Nugget was locked in a small metal cage, filthy, his beautiful golden fur matted and wet. A man with a hose blasted him with high-pressure water.

Nugget couldn’t stand steady. He cowered and yelped, trying to get away, but there was nowhere to go.

“See? Your dog’s living the good life now,” Sierra cooed. “Cameron found him a new home—a training camp on the edge of town. They’ll ‘teach’ him properly.”

My heart clenched like a fist was crushing it. I couldn’t breathe.

I could imagine how scared Nugget was.

My fingers dug into my palms at my sides.

“Is he… okay?” I asked, my voice cracked.

“Of course he is.” She laughed lightly. “He’s just a little disobedient. No big deal. A few days without food, a few good beatings, he’ll figure it out. Just like some people. They just need a reminder of where they belong.”

She leaned in close, her warm breath against my ear. “Sloane, smell that?”

Strong perfume mixed with… the coppery, rotten smell of blood and sweat.

My stomach turned inside out.

She saw my face go white and laughed even harder. “Cameron took me to the most underground dog fighting ring in the city last night. It was amazing. He said animals exist to be used.”

I shoved her away and lunged for the trash can in the corner, dry heaving.

Behind me, Sierra’s laughter filled the room.

“Oh no, Sloane, are you sick? Should I call Cameron to take you to the hospital?”

She walked over and patted my back, fake sympathy dripping from every touch.

I could feel the poison in her eyes.

When she got close, I “accidentally” knocked over a glass of water. It spilled all over her expensive dress.

“Ahhh!” she shrieked and jumped back.

“I’m so sorry, Sierra! I didn’t mean to…” I flailed my hands in the air like I couldn’t see.

“You stupid blind bitch!” Sierra dropped the act and shoved me to the floor. “You did that on purpose!”

My knees slammed into the ground. Pain shot through me.

That’s when the attic door swung open.

Cameron’s tall silhouette filled the doorway.

“What’s going on?” His voice was impatient.

Sierra’s face crumpled into tears on command, and she threw herself into his arms.

“Cameron, I was just trying to be nice to your wife, and she threw water all over me! This dress—you gave it to me, it’s limited edition…”

Cameron’s gaze landed on me like twin blades.

“Sloane. What the hell is wrong with you?”

I sat on the floor, looking up at him with my “sightless” eyes, my face full of innocence.

“Cameron, I didn’t mean to. I was trying to pour her some water and I just…”

My excuse was pathetic.

Cameron never believed me anyway.

He gave a cold laugh, pulled a small pill bottle from his pocket, and tossed it in front of me.

“Take your meds.”

Same pale yellow sleeping pills. But today, more than usual.

“Cameron, I’m not sick. I don’t want to take them…” I reached for him, begging.

He didn’t even look at me. He kept his arm around Sierra and said, ice-cold, “Take them, or you’ll never see your dog again.”

My hand froze in the air.

He always knew which button to push.

I lowered my head, picked up the bottle, and under their gleeful watch, shook out the pills and swallowed them with water.

Of course, I tucked them under my tongue and didn’t actually swallow a single one.

When I did what I was told and took them, Cameron’s face actually softened a little.

He patted Sierra’s back. “Alright, don’t bother with her. I’ll get you ten more.”

“Thank you, Cameron. You’re the best.” She nuzzled into his chest.

They acted like I wasn’t even there.

I sat on the cold floor, head down, hair covering my face and the hate boiling behind my eyes.

Soon the meds kicked in.

My body started swaying. My consciousness drifted.

I slumped to the floor and passed out.

Right before I closed my eyes, I heard Sierra whisper in Cameron’s ear.

“Cameron… next week is your grandfather’s eightieth birthday. Should we… tell him about us?”

Cameron was quiet for a second. I could hear the hesitation in his voice.

“Not yet.”

“Why not? You want that blind girl to stay the Mrs. Hawthorne forever?” Sierra’s voice went sharp.

“She won’t last much longer.” Cameron’s voice was so soft, but it hit me like a sledgehammer.

“Once she’s dead, the Mrs. Hawthorne spot is yours forever.”

So that was their plan.

Let me “die of illness” in this attic. Then he’d marry his first love with a clear conscience.

What a love story. What devotion.

I lay there on the floor, body cold, but my heart was burning.

Cameron. Sierra.

This game is over.

And I’ll be the one who wins.
