He Signed Divorce Papers Then Found My Wedding Photo Chapter 01

Everyone from the boardrooms to the back channels knew one thing about Mr. Lancaster.

He liked to play around, and Mrs. Lancaster was known for threatening divorce.

So when Adrian Lancaster and I got divorced for the last time, he signed the papers without the slightest change in expression.

“How long are you planning to sulk this time? A week? Half a month?”

Everyone thought I would be the same as before, crawling back in disgrace before long.

But this time, I moved away, changed my number, and disappeared completely.

A year later, we ran into each other again when I represented my company in a business negotiation.

I presented the proposal for two full hours, and he stayed silent the entire time. Only when my patience began to wear thin did he finally speak in that lazy voice of his.

“Are you done acting out? My patience is limited.”

“Have dinner with me tonight.”

I glanced at the time and shook my head.

“I have to pick up my child from my mother-in-law’s. Excuse me.”

After all, my husband had been investigating him for a long time.

I didn’t want Adrian to get caught too soon.

Adrian’s expression shifted slightly, though his tone remained casual.

“A year apart, and now you’ve learned to lie?”

“Evelyn, you should know this kind of trick doesn’t work on me.”

Of course I knew.

He responded better to softness than defiance, and he had always liked people to come to him first.

It had been that way in our marriage.

It was the same in business.

So I put my smile back on. With him watching me expectantly, I handed the contract back to him.

“Our company is truly sincere about this project. If you could just…”

“Is the project all you care about?”

Displeasure flickered across Adrian’s face. He raised his hand and knocked the contract aside, his mood turning in an instant.

“You know that isn’t what I’m talking about.”

“To be honest, you spoke for two hours just now, and I didn’t hear a single word.”

My smile stiffened.

After a long silence, I crouched down and began picking up the papers scattered across the floor, my face burning.

Just then, the office door opened, and Sienna Prescott’s voice came from behind me.

“Mr. Lancaster, the people from Summit Group are here. They’re ready to sign.”

My hand stopped.

The anger I had buried for so long surged up at once, and I couldn’t hold it back.

“Summit Group is our competitor. You never planned to work with us from the beginning, did you?”

“Then why did you specifically ask me to come here and make me talk for two hours?”

Adrian gave Sienna a brief, indifferent glance.

“Didn’t I tell you we would discuss this in the afternoon?”

Sienna lowered her head and said nothing.

That fragile, pitiful look on her face was almost exactly like the version of me I used to be.

“It’s not that I can’t sign the contract,” Adrian said, turning his gaze back to me. “But the condition is that you come back.”

“Have dinner with me tonight. We’ll talk about the contract and us.”

“Agree to that, and I can sign right now.”

Sienna’s expression shifted.

“Mr. Lancaster, the person in charge from Summit Group is my brother. You promised me…”

“Get out.”

Adrian frowned and cut her off, his voice turning cold.

Sienna’s mouth hung half open. She shot me a vicious glare, but in the end, she left.

“Since Mr. Lancaster has no real intention of working with us, we’ll consider the matter closed.”

“Next time, please say so earlier. Don’t waste someone’s time just because you can.”

I said it coldly and turned toward the door.

Adrian finally lost his composure. He stood and came after me, grabbing my wrist.

“Evelyn, don’t tell me you don’t know what I want.”

“It’s been a year. Would it kill you to soften up? In the past, you always came running back in tears after a few days.”

“That was the past!”

I yanked my hand back with all my strength.

But the moment those words left my mouth, Adrian’s expression hardened.

He snatched the phone from my hand and stared at the lock screen, where another man and I were standing together in a wedding photo. His eyes narrowed dangerously.

“A wedding photo.”

“You got married?”
