I Was Planning Our Wedding When He Told Me He Had a Wife Chapter 15

Evelyn never brought up marriage. Eager to make amends, Jason took the initiative, “Evelyn, let’s get married.” He’d already quietly begun handling his legal ties with Chloe. Wanted to erase the matter silently. Give his lover a “clean” marriage.

But somehow, the draft divorce agreement still being worked on fell into Chloe’s hands. Along with documents showing Jason had already begun legally transferring large amounts of assets and shares into Evelyn’s name.

Though she hadn’t read much, her greatest assets in life were her pretty looks and knowing how to play the demure, dependent woman for men, she understood the most basic stakes better than anyone.

A crystal-clear realization, carrying catastrophic panic, crashed down: She was about to lose everything.

After being shut out by Jason yet again, she remembered Evelyn’s icy words, “Look at who’s winning.” A vicious thought rose. She directly reported Jason’s “bigamy” to the relevant authorities.

Jason was left overwhelmed by the sudden report, his company’s reputation also severely affected.

Evelyn, as one of the victims at the center of the rumors, stepped forward to clarify and express support. Because of this, she was viciously attacked online by uninformed netizens. Jason felt increasingly heartbroken and guilty toward Evelyn.

Earlier, when Evelyn had accompanied Jason in starting the business, she’d also held some resources and connections. Though she’d retreated to the background for many years, this time standing back beside Jason gave him great encouragement.

Unfortunately, Chloe then “coincidentally” learned that Jason planned to take Evelyn and move abroad right after the cooling-off period ended, completely shaking her off.

Then, she wouldn’t get a single cent of alimony. Driven by jealousy and fear clouding her judgment, Chloe found an opportunity.

The night before a solo business trip out of town, she secretly slipped into the garage and tampered with the brake system of the car she knew so well. Her original intention was just to cause an accident, to stop him from leaving.

The next day, heavy rain.

He’d called off the trip. But then Jason decided to drive out for those greasy, over-spiced chili cheese fries from the old diner they used to haunt when they were just starting out. The car still lost control on a highway curve, crashed through the guardrail, and rolled down the hillside.

When the news arrived, Evelyn was watching the garage surveillance footage from the day before. She put down her phone, her face showing neither grief nor joy, only a stretch of icy stillness.

Jason’s funeral was handled quietly. Chloe hadn’t expected to avoid the cameras, yet still be caught on camera. With solid evidence of suspected murder, she was arrested and imprisoned.

Before the trial, Evelyn came to visit. Chloe suddenly grabbed the handset in front of her. “You came to laugh at me?”

“I came to tell you,” Evelyn’s tone was calm and unruffled, “Before his death, Jason finalized his will. The inheritance procedures are all complete.”

“As Jason’s legally designated heir, I’ve received all his shares, real estate, and liquid assets.” She paused, adding, “All clean and proper, completely legal, of course.”

With that, Evelyn put down the receiver, stood, and left with steady steps. She certainly wouldn’t tell her that Jason had originally prepared security sufficient for a lifetime for her.

Only that Chloe had step by step fallen into the panic she’d carefully laid out, cutting off her own escape route with her own hands. As for how she’d smoothly entered his garage that day… naturally, she’d ‘forgotten’ to lock the door.

Walking out of the detention center, the sky had cleared. Evelyn sat in the luxury sedan, closing her eyes.

Mom, and that unborn child…

Can you see?

This inferior love, and all the sins it brought, I have finally… buried with my own hands.
