He Signed Divorce Papers Then Found My Wedding Photo Chapter 02

“So now you’ve learned not only how to lie, but how to Photoshop pictures too?”

Adrian let out a cold laugh.

“You’ve dragged this out for a whole year over one minor incident, and that still wasn’t enough?”

“You even faked a wedding photo just to provoke me?”

“Give it back!”

I snatched the phone from him.

“You’re not that important. I wouldn’t waste my time on something this boring just because of you.”

His lips pressed into a hard line.

“Sienna Prescott is my secretary. With her help, the company completed a major project.”

“I rewarded her with a vacation. What was wrong with that?”

Even after a year, when the past was brought up again, he still sounded as if he genuinely couldn’t understand what he had done wrong.

“I didn’t answer your call because she suddenly had stomach pain and had to go to the hospital. I wasn’t looking at my phone. It was that simple.”

“How many times do I have to explain this before you believe me?”

I clenched my phone so tightly that I barely stopped myself from slapping him across the face.

Simple?

He made it sound so easy.

During our three years of marriage, Sienna Prescott had been at the center of countless fights between us.

The worst one happened when I was three months pregnant and went to his company to find him, only to be stopped coldly at the entrance by Sienna.

“Mr. Lancaster is working. No one is allowed to disturb him.”

Everyone in the company knew I was Adrian’s wife, and they all looked over in shock.

I felt humiliated, but for Adrian’s sake, I still forced myself to smile.

“It’s work-related. I’m here on behalf of my company.”

“Please let me go upstairs. This project is urgent.”

As I spoke, I tried to head up, but Sienna grabbed my wrist.

“Even work matters require an appointment two days in advance. Don’t you know Mr. Lancaster’s rules?”

At last, I could no longer hold back my anger.

People around us began whispering.

“I knew something was off between Mr. Lancaster and Sienna. Look at this. I’ve never seen a mistress block the actual wife at the door before.”

“Looks like Mr. Lancaster doesn’t care much about his wife. Otherwise, how would Sienna dare?”

“Of course he doesn’t. Mr. Lancaster bought Sienna a six-figure handbag the other day. Look at what his wife is carrying. That thing looks like it cost five hundred at most.”

“…”

A sharp pain tightened in my lower abdomen.

I pulled my hand back and prepared to keep going upstairs.

“You’re not going up there!”

Sienna chased after me and yanked my hair hard.

My heel slipped, and I tumbled down the stairs, hitting each step hard before blacking out on the spot.

When I opened my eyes again, I was in the hospital.

The baby was gone.

I sobbed until I could barely breathe, while Adrian stood beside me with a frown.

“Sienna did the right thing. You came to see me without an appointment, so you broke the rules.”

“Evelyn, losing the baby was your own fault.”

I stared at him in disbelief.

I screamed, broke down, and for the first time, demanded a divorce.

His expression didn’t even change.

After a moment of silence, he stood up.

“I’ll give you some time to think it over.”

After he left, we didn’t see each other for about two weeks.

During those two weeks, he had Sienna contact my company.

She told them I had ruined the collaboration and that they needed to replace me as the person in charge.

My company docked my bonus and demoted me.

My mother was still alive then. When she heard that we were divorcing, the shock triggered her heart condition.

To calm her down, I went back and begged Adrian.

From then on, he thought he had me completely under control.

So when I brought up divorce again a year ago, he assumed I was only angry in the moment and throwing another fit.

After all, I had swallowed my pain and gone back to him even after losing our baby.

In his mind, one unanswered phone call was nothing compared to that.

But he forgot one thing.

My mother was already gone.

A person with no weakness left, only years of hurt and hatred, had nothing to fear.

Besides, if he had used even a little of his brain, he would have understood that what happened that night was never simply about whether he answered my call.

But he never did.

“Evelyn, I’ve already waited a year for you. Not everyone gets that kind of treatment.”

Adrian’s cold voice pulled me back from my thoughts.

He pressed his lips together and looked at me.

“I’ll find out whether you really got married.”

“And if you lied to me, you know what will happen.”
