She Asked For A Divorce The Day He Made Her A Public Enemy Chapter 05

The settlement from the divorce was enough for me to live 

comfortably for the rest of my life. 

But that was never my goal. 

They all seemed to have forgotten–everything that had been forced onto me, everything I had been made to endure… I 

had never accepted it. 

My name was still being dragged through the mud online. 

The memes mocking my family were still circulating across 

social media. 

Jason Miller–no matter how much money you throw at me–l 

never agreed to let Verena off the hook. 

Jason had tried to block me from the voice acting industry, but his influence only reached people at his level–or below. 

Most of his studio’s projects were streaming series. 

If I wanted work, I had to go somewhere beyond his control: 

Prestige dramas. 

Starlight Media was currently producing a major female–led 

political drama-“Empire’s Rise.” 

I went to their office three times, trying to audition for the 

lead role. 

Each time, I was turned away. 

Finally, they returned my résumé, saying they weren’t 

accepting external applicants. 

My best friend offered to pull some strings–introduce me 

directly to the project’s executive producer, Adrian Blake. 

I thought about it, then decided to go find him myself. 

“Ma’am, do you have an appointment?” the receptionist 

asked. “Without one, you won’t be able to see Mr. Blake.” 

After half an hour of going back and forth, she called over his 

assistant. 

“Ms. Grant,” he said apologetically, “you don’t know Mr. Blake, 

and you don’t have an appointment. He won’t see you. 

There’s really nothing I can do.” 

“In that case… could you do me a favor?” 

I used his phone and recorded a voice message. 

“Mr. Blake, hello. My name is Serena Vale. I’m a voice 

actress…” 

Back in college, when my mother found out I had joined the voice acting club, she strongly opposed it. 

She didn’t want me anywhere near that world–didn’t want 

me to become a voice actress. 

Because the woman my father had cheated with… had been. 

a struggling voice actress. 

My mother wanted me to focus on my finance degree, to rebuild the family’s future. 

But I didn’t listen. 

I kept pursuing what I loved behind her back. 

One night, I was competing in a voice acting contest–and I won first place. 

At the same time, my mother suffered a heart attack. 

She was rushed to the hospital but didn’t make it. 

When I saw the dozens of missed calls on my phone, it felt like the world collapsed beneath me. 

Because I had been chasing my dream… I didn’t even get to 

see her one last time. 

From that day on, the once–famous voice actress Serena Vale 

disappeared without a trace. 

It wasn’t until much later that I learned–the girl Jason had 

been secretly in love with, the one he wrote about on that 

anonymous account…was Serena Vale. 

It was me. 

I had planned to tell him one day. To surprise him. 

But before I had the chance, Verena appeared. 

Now, returning as Serena again, beyond the fear and the bitter reluctance, what weighed heaviest was having no 

choice at all. 

Everyone who had tried to break me, I would make them 

pay. 

“I’ve included my full portfolio,” I said in the recording. “I sincerely hope you’ll give me a chance to audition for the 

lead role in Empire’s Rise.” 

I listed all my past voice work, holding nothing back. 

Then I went downstairs and waited. 

Twenty minutes later, Adrian agreed to see me. 

The elevator carried me up to the top floor. 

Guided by his assistant, I passed through multiple security checkpoints before finally stepping into his office. 

He was dressed in a sharp, tailored suit, his hair slicked back. 

neatly. His features were refined, a pair of gold–rimmed 

glasses resting on the bridge of his nose. 

A cup of coffee sat in his hand as he glanced at me briefly, his gaze distant, before lowering his eyes again. 

For the CEO of a major company, he was far younger than I had imagined. 

“You’re here to audition for the lead in Empire’s Rise?” he asked. 

“Review the lines on page twenty. Five minutes. Then we’ll run a scene together.” 

A scene? In five minutes? 

I took the script he handed me and scanned the lines as quickly as I could. 

It was a confrontation–the moment the female lead decides to part ways with the male lead. 

Heavy tension. Complex emotional layers. 

Five minutes later, I began. 

I had barely gotten through half my lines when Adrian suddenly stepped into character. 

He grabbed my wrist, his eyes turning dark, almost dangerous. 

“If everything you’re saying right now is the truth–then what about everything we promised before? I gave you my heart, completely… and in the end, I was just a pawn in your game?” 

His eyes were bloodshot, filled with resentment–yet there was a flicker of something softer beneath it. 

For a split second, my heartbeat faltered. I almost lost focus. 

I forced myself back into the scene, shaking his hand off with determination, a cold smile curling on my lips. 

“Your heart? In a court full of schemers, everyone’s just 

wearing a human face over something rotten. How much of 

your feelings is even real? And what is it worth?” 

“You’re all the same–clinging to whatever you can to climb. higher. Don’t pretend to be in love in front of me.” 

Despair flashed through his eyes. 

Then something twisted at the corner of his mouth, turning 

into a dangerous smile. 

“If that’s the case… then it’s a pity. You know too much 

about me.” 

“I can’t let you live.” 

His hand closed around my throat. 

As his expression darkened, his breath came hot and uneven 

against my face. 

I struggled, clawing at his wrist. Just as my strength began 

to give out, the guards burst in. 

When Adrian finally let go, my face and neck were flushed 

red. 

Still catching my breath, I quickly tried to explain. 

“Mr. Blake… I’m just a voice actress. I don’t have any acting 

experience. That must have been… embarrassing to watch.” 

On the surface, that scene was about a breakup. 

But in truth, it was a performance–two people acting for the 

eyes watching them. 

A turning point in their relationship. 

Even the dialogue alone was difficult, let alone the acting. 

And yet Adrian had handled it effortlessly, like a seasoned 

professional. 

Compared to him, my earlier confidence felt almost 

ridiculous. 

Adrian poured me a glass of water and spoke calmly. 

“You lost focus twice when I pushed you–but your delivery 

stayed intact.” 

“Your voice work passes.” 

Just then, there was a knock at the door. 

The assistant stepped in. 

“Mr. Blake,” he said, “Jason Miller is here–with Verena 

Dawson. They’re asking to see you.”
