The screams in the dockside warehouse lasted all night. 

In the end, the men couldn’t take it anymore. 

When Ethan raised the knife again, they sobbed and confessed everything. 

“It was all Chloe’s arrangement.” 

“She gave us money and told us to get rid of the baby in that woman’s belly.” 

“She also said we could have our fun, that we didn’t need to treat that woman like a person. Once it was done, she’d make sure we got plenty of benefits.” 

“She had the surveillance cameras removed in advance, but 

one of us hid a mini camera. We recorded everything. If you 

don’t believe us, watch it…” 

Ethan’s hand froze in midair. 

When the recordings were pulled up and projected onto the 

screen, his vision went black again and again. 

The truth was finally revealed. 

In the footage, Chloe stood off to the side with her arms crossed. The malicious smile on her face never disappeared. 

My heart–wrenching cries came through the recording. 

I desperately protected my belly, curling into a ball. 

I screamed Ethan’s name in despair. 

Until, at the very end, the pleading in my eyes turned into hopelessness, then finally faded into dead silence. 

Ethan shook all over. 

He suddenly bent forward, clutching his chest, almost unable 

to breathe. 

He remembered rushing to the hospital and forcing me to apologize to Chloe. 

Back then, the way I looked at him had been empty and 

lifeless, like a hollow doll. 

At that thought, he could barely stand. He staggered back two or three steps. 

So everything had been a trap Chloe had carefully designed. 

He had believed the wrong person. 

“Chloe!” 

He forced out her name through clenched teeth, his voice carrying a hatred he had never felt before. 

After that day, he almost immediately cut off every escape route Chloe had. 

The Sterling Group was forced into bankruptcy overnight. 

The day news spread across the internet that Chloe’s father had died by suicide, she finally appeared. 

She lunged at Ethan like a madwoman and slapped him across the face, screaming at the top of her lungs. 

“Ethan! Are you even human?” 

Ethan didn’t dodge. 

He stood there and took the slap. The corner of his mouth 

lifted, but his eyes grew colder and colder. 

“Sophie was your friend for so many years. Was she not good to you?” 

Chloe froze for a second. 

Then she burst into wild laughter, laughing until tears came 

out. 

“So what? I hated her!” 

“With that weak, timid personality of hers, why did every man I liked since school end up falling for her?” 

“Why did she get to live like some sweet little fool, protected by her whole family?” 

“Even after her father died and her company went under, you still stayed by her side.” 

“Why? How is that fair?” 

The more she spoke, the more agitated she became. Her voice 

was almost a scream. 

“So I wanted to destroy her!” 

“Yes, she was good to me. But that was all fake kindness!” 

“I was raised like a princess too. Why did everyone compare 

me to that coward from the time we were little?” 

“So when she turned twenty–five, I destroyed her. I made her 

see us together… hahaha…” 

She laughed until her whole body shook. 

Her tears mixed with her laughter, making her look 

completely insane. 

Ethan stared at her, hatred surging in his eyes. 

“You’re crazy.” 

“I’m crazy?” 

Chloe stopped laughing and muttered to herself. 

When she looked up again, her eyes were venomous as she stared at him. 

“What about you, Ethan? Why are you pretending to be a decent man?” 

“Ethan, all these years when you were sleeping with me, did you ever think about how she felt?” 

“Did you ever treat her like a person? Didn’t you also take advantage of her father’s death and her company’s collapse to become more and more reckless with her?” 

“You and I are the same kind of person.” 

“So stop pretending you’re some devoted lover. It’s disgusting.” 

Ethan’s lips moved, but he couldn’t say a word. 

In the distance, police sirens drew closer and closer. 

When Chloe heard them, her expression finally changed. 

She looked back at Ethan. 

Then she suddenly smiled, the curve of her lips bleak and 

terrifying. 

“Ethan, do you think you’ll get to live well after this? Remember this. She will never forgive you in this lifetime.” 

With that, she turned and rushed toward the railing. 

Ethan reached out to grab her, but only caught the edge of her 

clothes. 

A splash rose beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, then vanished. 

Ethan leaned over the railing and stared at the surging river 

below for a long, long time. 

Wind blew up from the water. 

Suddenly, he felt cold all over.
