When I rushed to Cedars–Sinai, there was already someone in 

Caleb’s hospital room. 

It was Serena Clarke. She was carefully handing Caleb water. 

Caleb’s arm was wrapped in gauze. His thin body leaned against the hospital bed, but his eyes looked at her seriously. 

I watched the scene from the doorway and could not bring 

myself to go in. 

The System urged me. 

“Looks like the major angst plot is back.” 

“Go in. Hurt him in front of the heroine. Say you won’t visit 

him even once.” 

“While he’s sick, you’re out partying all night. Serena will take 

care of him.” 

“This is when Caleb and Noah build feelings with Serena. After 

this major angst beat, once he’s discharged, file for divorce and run off with a rich guy.” 

I opened the door and cleared my throat. 

My tone was sharp and cruel. 

“You managed to turn a DoorDash shift into a trip to Cedars–Sinai. How much is this going to cost? If something happens to you, do you even have insurance?” 

“Do you know how busy I am? I’m not coming to Cedars–Sinai 

to take care of you.” 

I deliberately dropped the stack of money he had given me that 

morning on the hospital room floor, then walked out with my 

head held high. 

Caleb watched my back and said nothing. 

In the heroine’s eyes, the scene was full of shock and pity. 

She seemed to want to stop me, but Caleb called her back. 

“Ms. Clarke…” 

I could not hear what they said after that. 

I wandered out of Cedars–Sinai with no destination. 

The System was still reminding me. 

“You can’t take care of the son either. Sending him straight to 

Cedars–Sinai counts as completing the task.” 

That afternoon, after picking Noah up, I brought him to 

Cedars–Sinai. 

“Can you take care of Dad for a few days? Mommy has 

something to do. I won’t be back for the next few days.” 

Noah’s mouth trembled, and hurt flashed through his eyes, 

but he nodded obediently. 

I put a handful of cash into his little backpack. 

“Noah is the best. I know you can do this.” 

When we reached the hospital room door, I pushed Noah 

inside. 

“I already made plans to go out with someone. I brought your 

son here.” 

Noah stumbled from my push and fell to the floor. Tears of 

grievance filled his eyes. 

After saying that, I left without looking back. 

Naturally, I did not see Noah instantly pull back his tears 

inside the room and stare at Caleb. 

The System finished applauding in my head before leaving. 

“What a miserable male lead. What a heartless ex-wife. For the 

next few days, you are not allowed to go to Cedars–Sinai. Let 

them fend for themselves.” 

“Task completed. Bonus of fifteen thousand dollars has been 

issued.”
